Looking at the exif, these were shot at 1.8. Hence, if the focus point is on the eyes, it is but natural to have everything else soft. Had it been that these were shot at f8, then everything would be sharp as expected.

I know it is taken on a f1.8 and some parts will be soft except for the main focus. But my point on this is that to show sharp image on the whole face. The baby got a very nice and cute face and IMHO it should be a sharp to show it.

yeah quite correct, to get this effect i shot this in the shade, and me under a skylight roof, the background although not visible is a busy street with people cars and all, it was like 3 stops or more overexposed. spot metered got a correct exposure on the eye.
the main light was coming from an overhead polycarb roof.
shooting this on an aperture higher than f1.8 will show some of the background already. i wanted a studio high-key type photo with just available light.
@Mau Pedraza : It's just me but I wanted the eyes to be the main focus of the portrait, Elliana (the baby) has very expressive eyes, that is the first thing that you will notice about her, and I wanted to really bring that out.

Re: Baby Outdoors
I like baby pictures especially with ambient lighting combo. My only comment is the cropping of the two images:
1. Personally, I didn't like the image cropped this way. There is a sense of imbalance as right eye and lips fully exposed while the left is not. I would either cropped it half of the face or give the full face.
2. The left eye was cut off of a small portion. The baby's eyes are very expressive and lovely that the least that I will do is remove them in the image.
I want to see more of baby Elliana. Please post more. .gif)

thanks for the critique, will try that next time, i would definitely get better photos of her now that my 50mm would AF on a D80, on of the reasons why i hated my d60, LOL
