I use Nod32 and it's super lightweight and fast. Are USB drives with write protect switches still available?

You should also disable Autoplay (Vista) or Autorun (XP via TweakUI MS Powertool) for all drives to avoid having anything from a flash drive infect your workstation before you can reformat it.
you can use Greatis Regrun Reanimator, it's a very light stand alone program that lets you clean your registry from malwares, spyware, and trojans, just be careful thou when you clean your registry keys, since some are essential to your system, but don't worry is inteface is user friendly... If your using flash drives i recommend using the protect tool, it disable autoruns or at least block it, (malwares, spywares and trojans are most ofthen have autoruns so when you use your flash drive with an infected PC, your flash drive won't be infected and vice versa )
