The answer lies within yourself. You know more than you think you do. First to address is why do you want to upgrade? And what is it you want to achieve by doing so?

Since you said youre still an amateur. For me, the wise choice would be a lens upgrade. Buying a lens will overcome the limitations you encountered before on your kit lens or whatever your current lens is. Just choose the right lens for your genre of photography.

True, I for one is on that principle since you will know what to get when you know....
Yet, I guess photography for people is always divided for arts, gear, or anywhere in between.
For love of gear, I would like to get a lens and there's plenty of options depending what you like to try or seriously use.
Cameras don't really improve that much in years, maybe, in every 4 years and depreciates in value like a computer hardware or gadget.

You know if you shoot enough with you gear you would know if it is time to upgrade. Lens or Body, this would be a tough call because it will depend mainly on the user, the lenses that you have and the body itself. As you shoot more with your current setup and get interested with a particular genre, you will be inclined to build your gear towards that. Say you shoot or interested in portraits then you would need lens that is good for portrait. If portraits in studio setup with lights, then you would not necessarily need say f/2.8, f/1.8, f/1.4, since you can control the lights.

Photographers suffers from buying itch, this is very common, but for the mean time if you don't know what you need, that means you are not ready for an upgrade. Polish and hone your shooting skills first.
Do I have to itemized my gear? Just believe that I have most what I need.
