Dan- I could but I don't see the "need" for it. Most of the images that I take with my camera only goes to facebook, flickr and other photo websites. I don't use my camera to earn money, just a hobby for me as well.
It is nice to know that technology is improving. My skills on the other hand are not. At this point, I am more interested with the new lens announcement eventhough I have all the lenses that I'll ever need (for now).
i definitely agree with sir david here, thus the camera development since the hyped-up 2008-2010 when almost twice a year they announce a new camera coming. since the D700 and the 5D mkII, pro photographers have owned cameras that gives them just about everything they need (what can't you shoot with these cams?). Many has learn to love what they already have in hand. There are even these 5D classic loyalists. They seem to find the reason for upgrade to be very less necessary. Except for those with "upgraditis" whose hands just itch whenever they see something new.. ^_^
back to the mighty D4 though, it sports more masculine look than its predecessors.
You need to consider that professional sports photography is "HUGE" and is a big money maker. The D3s made a big impact during the previous winter olympics. The D4 is definitely marketed for the pros who earns money with their camera equipment. One published single shot can easily compensate to the cost of their camera.
With the London Summer Olympics scheduled this summer, the demand for both Canon 1Dx and Canon D4 will spike. I think this is one of the reasons why Nikon will release the D4 instead of the D800 first.
