    Image Compression - What's Your Secret?

    Question: How can we reduce image file size without compromising the quality?I've been trying to upload photos in Facebook but the image quality has been too compromised. I then acquired the services of an Image Compressor software but the results are still disappointing. Your help is greatly appeciated. Thank you.

    This isn't a secret. Usually what people do is...

    On Adobe Photoshop, go to "image size",

    resize to 1000 whichever is bigger between the width or the height,

    apply your choice of sharpening then save as JPEG.

    Done. Upload. HTH

    There's an option in saving JPGs as low- maximum, for web medium is fine, but if want to keep the quality save it as high but the file size is a lil big.

    Join Flickr, upload all your photos there then link your Flickr site to Facebook via the icon. On Flickr you get I think up to 150mb or maybe it's 300mb free upload per month and for $25 or so per year you can get a Pro account and get unlimited upload.

    Re: Image Compression - What's Your Secret?

    i use LightRoom 3 and I had problems with FB uploads during my first 3 months of photography until I learned to export with these settings:

    width = 8 inches

    height = 12 inches

    ppi = 100

    LR 3, in my experience, automatically adjusts width and height regardless if the shot was taken in portrait or landscape orientation.

    It also limits my file size to less than 1 Mb and I choose FB's hi-res option when uploading.

    I am now happy with my FB pics

    There's no secret, just resize the photos to 800x600 or 1024x768 (make sure to keep the aspect ratio) and save it as a JPEG. Few use the "Download in high-resolution" thing anyway.
