With Apples recent update of the iPhone 4 including a back illuminated sensor 5 Mpix camera that could capture images this clean (above) and 720p HD video coupled with a fairly efficient mobile version of iMovie is this the impending future of the majority of digicam owners whose sole purpose of taking pictures is to be able to upload to facebook or youtube, and or print (rarely) a maximum size of 4R with it (on which the resolution is enough). Once this camera and iMovie system gets incorporated into the next iPod touch which costs a quarter of the iPhone, Apple might just eat up another market.

What do you guys think?

A 5mp camera has been pared with a cellphone by Nokia and Sony ericsson by 1+ years already.

Its not about the resolution, its about the sensor upgrade for cleaner captures. They went the sensible way of improving the image quality rather than on the stupid megapixel wars of packing 12 M pixels on a small sensor so all you end up are 4Mb of mush. As the picture above shows, the quality is very decent enough for the usual photo purposes of facebook and youtube.

Any 12Mpx picture taken at good light then resized at 640X.... will end up looking sharp and clean. But still.. Lets see these mushes at full size w/o post sharpening and the evidences of those mushy sensor will really come out.
