    New body vs. New Lens

    Good Day DPP,

I'm photography enthusiast on a budget. I've had my 2nd hand canon 350d for 2 years now. It still works great even though I'm really pushing the actuations. My dilemma is this:

I have my eye set on two things. 1) 40 or 50d body and 2) a 70-200 f2.8 lens for my aspirations as a sport and portrait photographer.

Which should I prioritize? Buying a new body or buying a new lens?

I'm trying to rationalize that buying the lens should come first since being a good photographer means you can work with any body. Furthermore, the lens will better satisfy my need for the particular kind of photography I'm after. A good body would be a bonus in that sense.

Am I on the right track? If there is already a similar thread in this forum, I'd much appreciate it if you point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance.

if you're happy with your current body and don't feel that it's performance is limiting you from taking the shot you want, i'd say invest in a lens. in the same note, when the time comes that you upgrade your body, the lens will carry over to your new body. (unless you're switching brands )
