    C&C - Zig Zag

    Large Copy <<< please click

Sorry for the frame, it's a bit too big, please ignore.

Shot with EOS10D and 50mm f/1.8 with Polarizer on a tripod around 6PM (about 15mins to sunset).

    Bracketed +/- 1.3EV. Converted with Channel Mixer + D&B.

    Thanks in advance.

very nice photo. a tad bit of contrast and this is a winner ( i would dodge the clouds a bit more to bring out just a bit more whites)

Ma'am Pilar, thanks... Which clouds should I dodge? I haven't printed this yet and would like to know what I can improve on. Thank you very much.

if this is for print, i really cant give an accurate comment since our screens show a different contrast. i did a quick edit and if it looks good, you can do the adjustments necessary ( if your monitor is calibrated to your printer than perfect)

hope you dont mind i edited straight on your image

    Ha! My turn to Critique!!!

    I LOVE IT!!!

I zoomed in to a bigger picture and it became a bit grainy though. I was thinking you left it grainy intentionally to portray a film like effect. Following Pilar's dodging suggestion, I would dodge the upper clouds to create one more "zig" (or "zag" whichever you like).

Ahh... Much better, thanks... I'll use this as a guide then... Thanks again

@Aly: Thanks, and yes, the grain was intentional, as most of my B&W ends up in prints anyway, I just feel that grain-less B&W look stale when printed... Couple the fact that all I have right now are Canon Glossy paper hehe.

I'll try to add one more "zag" and see how it goes... The current pattern was captured as is.

OT: Which is a zig, which is a zag?

OT Back: I think a ZIG is the lateral stroke from left to right as in when you start to write the letter Z. The Zag is the downward diagonal stroke from right to left. But that's just me.

    Oooh never knew that

BTW, should I dodge the sea and topmost part of the clouds as well?

Personally, I think the sea and the very topmost part is as dramatic as it can be. No need to touch this.
