View Full Version : StoFen Omnibounce
Raffy Crucillo 09-04-2006, 01:15 PM ...just wanted to share this.
I recently purchased a Stofen Omnibounce for my SB600 via http://www.stofen.com. I paid around USD26+ (USD19+ plus USD 7.00 shipping).
They shipped it via US Postal Service and I got it after 15 days. :)

Hi Raffy,
Did it have to go through customs or was it delivered to your doorstep? and what method of payment did you use?
I've been looking for the same item for my SB600 but have no idea where to get it. have you looked in quiapo? They don't have it in JT Photo.
Thanks!

I had to pick it up at the post office. Paid P35.00 as customs examination fee. I paid via credit card (I even called them later to confirm, and they were very accomodating. If you don;t receive it I bet they'd replace or refund you). :)
I share the same experience as you (checked at JT Photoworld, too).

This is a cheaper alternative, and you don't have to wait. :)
I'm not sure if they have it now, though. Asked a frined of mine to look around in Hidalgo for this one, but he couldn't find one (unless he actually didn't look  ).
edu_singson 09-05-2006, 04:02 PM Just called Mayer, they have it at 1300, and saw it in Infomax Megamall at 1500.
I guess I will just wait a bit more so when I go to Hidalgo, sulit. I will get na rin all the other accessories I want:
Nikon Right Angle Viewer DR-6 (Hehe... I have a bad back kasi!) :)
Stofen Omnibounce 600
JonDexterTan 09-05-2006, 04:22 PM hi Raff, comes in a box right? with those wired fasteners, and includes this guy's sto-fen business card? :D got my FL-36 and FL-50 omnibounce through their website too ;) and you are right, especially for me who's living out of manila, it's much more convenient.
Raffy Crucillo 09-05-2006, 04:33 PM Hi, Dex. Yes. Exactly how you described it.
I couldn't find the time to go to Hidalgo, so I decided to shop online. Worked ok for me.

I also bought my stofen omnibounce a year ago online from stofen.com. Paid the same price online through credit card. I also ordered the Two-Way Bounce Unit for USD19.95.Got it delivered here in Dubai. Had to pay 10 dirhams (140 pesos) when I claimed it from the post office.
I used the Omnibounce most of the time, while the Two-way bounce is used whenever I shoot in open areas at night or indoor when the ceiling is too high to bounce-off the light from the SB-600.

Hi Raffy,
Now that you have it, wanted to ask if you've had the same issues I've had with using a Sto Fen when shooting bounce + TTL metering : Most of my pics come out 1 stop under, or worse. This is sensible subject distance from the flash, regular height ceiling: think barkada shot.
When I remove it, all things being equal, the exposure returns to normal.
I didn't bother finding out why. I guess it has something to do with the TTL system that Nikon has. But i stopped using it for a long time.
Short of going into manual flash metering, perhaps someone can offer an explanation on what am doing wrong?
Thanks
Edwin
Carlo R. Lopez 09-06-2006, 01:36 PM the sb800 comes with a diffuser and bounce card just like them. are they the same?

Hi, Edwin.
From what I know, TTL metering uses two flashes. The first flash measures the light, and the second one is the actual burst. My guess is, with the stofen, your flash gets a different reading, thus, underexposing your shot.
I remember reading in the manual of the stofen (which I almot threw away 'coz I thought it's part of the shipping docs), that if you're using TTL, don't bounce it. Let me get back to you on that, I'll check it again when I get home.
Hope this helps.

Hi, Carlo.
According to some friends, the effect is a bit different.

Thanks for the info.

I read in another forum that you can use the plastic of the milk containers (less the milk, of course  ).
