Just wondering who else here makes use of the NEF format.

I use it exclusively since it makes it easy correct the whitebalance if it is off. Also , I want to have the best IQ possible.

If you use JPEG or JPEG+NEF, how is it working for you?

Thanks!

I used to use jpeg all of the time, but recently been using RAW most of the time cause off bigger cf cards. I use raw for important pics and the ones that matter that i need a full sized file.
Usually Raw takes a little longer when shooting alot of frames or opening alot pictures in the computer.

When I use Jpeg and have problems with whitebalance i just use the photofilter option in photoshop and that usually does the job :)

i use jpeg+nef in my settings because jpeg for availability whenever need arises on short notice and nef for better quality for post processing.

the files are big (nef) and less shots for cards though.

i use RAW file on important shoot... it s like buying "karneng baboy" from the market then cook it as you want at home...hehehe. whereas JPEG file, bili ka ng ulam sa fastfood then all you can do at home is microwave it. hmmmm.

RAW all the way! ;)

I prefer to cook my own image than let the camera's firmware do the job. :D

Was using Jpeg for convinience, (and when i had just 1-1gig cf) have been trying to use nef lately. I see the advantage but the inconvenience is there. So I use it for important pictures only. Day to day pix are still in jpeg.

RAW always for landscapes and night photography. The ability to vary tones via the two white balance sliders (in ACR) is just the real deal!

I use RAW and RAW + JPG. I like RAW for all the reasons mentioned in previous posts and the cost of memorry is low enough to allow it. But I find it useful to have the +Jpeg (Meduium, normal) for some situations when I have to give a copy of the photos quickly or need prints fast. After shooting I just dump all the photos to my laptop and drag the jpegs into a separate folder for burning. :)

Since I got a bigger memory card, I started using RAW. And have been using it for almost any kind of shoot, like in fireworks (http://www.digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=1747) - where you'll require longer exposure (subject to noise). I use JPEG during "kuripot" officemates' birthday parties. hehe!

JPG 100% when shooting events. RAW when it's a slow leisurely shoot. But looking that the percentage of RAW shooters, I'm now reconsidering my position.

RAW is indeed better ... its like "shooting the pic" all over again ... of course, it has its limitations pag overexposed or underexposed ng sobra.

I just started using RAW when I got my 400D and I believe there's No Turning Back. I treat my RAW files as my negatives and keep a JPEG copy for regular use.

Use the right format for the right job.

There are instances you need RAW like paid shoots and if you need to print large sizes.

For events, JPEGs would just be fine. I shoot medium fine for events.

But if you're just posting your photos for an online gallery, just shoot JPEG. Unless, your intention is to archive it for your future use.

My 2 cents.

i shoot jpeg and raw all the time depend the print size required... shoot in raw and convert to jpeg what the difference in shooting jpeg? shoot in Jpeg and convert it TIFF file will be useless... of course shoot it in RAW then convert it to TIFF for large printing. You must know when you need to shoot in RAW or Jpeg format. like wedding you dont need to be in RAW all the time. most of your picture printed in small size.

cheers

Jpeg Fine/Large. Raw very good for cropping image coz of large file from 4000jpg and raw at 8000. Im ok with Jpg fine/large, when i edit it still i maintain almost the same file. And Raw for large printing lang anyways, in editing naman Jpg/raw all fuctions available naman with photoshop.

Good thing did upgrade my firmware(d70) my raw file is compressed so got more raw store file in my CF.

As I only shoot for myself, I shoot only in RAW. Started with NEF + jpeg when I first got the d70s, but switched when I found out how RAW allows for better pp tweaking (just MHO, mind you).

jpeg for events... raw for portraits. I love the advantages of shooting raw but it just takes too long to process the files. Impatient clients are hard to deal with and even harder to explain the complexities of PP. Since the advent of digital photography clients have become more impatient and want to get their photos immediately which makes it hard to do when shooting raw. although i would personally love to shoot raw all the time, i cant because of this.
