There is no Live View mode on the D80 so even if you use it tethered via software like Nikon's Camera Control or Bibble you won't see the image "Live". You will only see the image after the shot is taken.

The only dslr I've seen tethered with live view is the Canon EOS 40D (http://www.popphoto.com/cameras/4669/live-view-photography-with-the-canon-eos-40d.html) which has live view on it's own.

you can however get the Zigview LCD angle finder

http://www.zigview.co.uk/

it should work for most cameras that doesn't have live-view feature. The newer S2 has an external NTSC/PAL video output

As for the long USB cable.. im sure there are some computer shops that are able to make customized USB cables. Else, there's always those nifty extenders =)

sad to say that tethered shooting with live view isn't possible for the D80. Longer USB cords are relatively easy to find, but make sure to check the connectors. You could also try the USB extensions that I think is available.

D300/D3 live view over HDMI
from dpreview.com

It has to be said that using live view over HDMI to a HD LCD or Plasma screen really is an amazing experience and could be extremely useful in studio photography situations.

nice...

thanks for the info guys but i wasnt referring to the live view mode. what i mean is i want to see my image on the monitor screen at the same time. i guess my choice would be my TV or an LCD monitor w/ my desktop coz i still cant afford a laptop. by the way whats a good software to use with raw captures on a PC? my nikon capture cd is just a demo only.

THe only DSLR brand i know that can be remotely controlled fully from a PC is Canon using DSLR Remote PRO.

That's the only reason i'm contemplating on buying a Canon since its the only way i can implement my HDR Pano workflow on a Lego NXT head :D

Ann, Penge discount ha :D

The Sony A700 allows for tethered shooting and PC controlled shooting (with the software included with the camera). Now if they only allowed for wireless shooting and/or wireless PC controlled shooting.

400d doesn't have live view so you won't get to see what you're shooting as you are shooting. however, you'd see the image on the screen after taking the shot.
for pc: a usb cable and the supplied eos utility software. for tv: just use the video cable:)

how about for Canon ??
anyone ??

There is also a way of directly moving your photos from your camera to LR (Lightroom).

Regardless if you are using Camera control Pro (for Nikon) or for Canon (i don't know), just have a dedicated folder for your tethered captures then use the Auto-import functions. Automatically, your photos will flow LR + your presets can also be applied automatically. I love this funtion... :)

as an alternative, buy an Eye-Fi card...

I use Camera Control Pro 2 with my Nikon-compatible bodies. :)
