View Full Version : Is Your GF/Wife/Sis your main (free) Female Model?
Tantin Tolledo 09-01-2006, 05:28 PM Im not sure if I'm the only guy here who does this. Since I cant afford to shoot a model exclusively (only on group photo-shoots like in Ross' studio the other night), I tend to request my GF to pose for me as my model. Maybe I'm just a bit lucky the she willingly pose for me the way I want her to.
I'm sure some of you here used your former (or current) partners for those practice shoots. Me? 60% of my shots are about her.
Bad side of this practice? She doesnt want to see any other female model on my CF card, or in my iPhoto. (Good thing I have external HDD at home).

alvin_lao 09-01-2006, 06:01 PM Nope ... my daughter :D
My wife still tolerates the female models in my portfolio... even the nudes :D

Hmmm...what else is there in your external HDD?
Yeah, I also use my wife and son. But both don't seem to cooperate very much

Ha ha ha :D !!! We are the same!!! Art of concealment, that's a great term! I attended something like 6 nude workshops (well, actually, we call it Figure Study and Lighting Workshops (http://photo.meetup.com/364/)) but I cannot even show it to my wife to critique :(.

Can't do that or show my wife... Can't even edit near her my Race Queen or babe shots... "She'd make me commit ritual seppuko!" :D ha ha ha...
Jo Avila 09-01-2006, 11:30 PM My wife used to be my main test subject whenever I would purchase a new lens.
But I had to stop when she complained that a shot using my then new 4x5 large format camera was too unforgiving in terms of sharpness and clarity.
"How will I know the lens is sharp if I use a soft filter?"
That particular line didn't help in rectifying the situation.
My eldest daughter used to be my test subject when I first got my Nikon F5 though.
Yup, the AF was fast. Able to accurately focus on a fast moving baby crawling across the bed towards the edge.
But the photographer/father is even faster still in catching the baby before she goes off the edge of the bed :D

Jo Avila 09-01-2006, 11:47 PM Eh bakit naman kasi Macro lens ang ginagamit mo? :D
I would imagine that you were pretty close to make her whiteheads obvious :D

Portrait photographers love the 85mm f/1.4 or 85mm f/1.8 lens for this kind of shots. For me, since I don't have one yet, I use a 50mm f/1.8 lens.

Hehehe, as always, i start my nude workshop with "you can show this shots to your wife, gf, bf, daughters etc"...part ng academics kasi namin sa Fine Arts in College yung nude scketching and nude photography kaya when i got married, accepted na yan ng wifey ko. Minsan dumating sa bahay ko yung youngest daughter ko (si Mio) with her classmates while me working on my Mac converting my commissioned nude shots to artwork. Overheard na pabulong -"Ano ba yang tatay mo Mio, pinapayagan ng nanay mong manuod ng bold movie?"...ok lang yan sabi ng bunso ko, trabaho lang nya yan eh. Hehehe
Magkape o beer tayo sa Thursdays@OWG and i will show you how to convert your nude shots to artwork for free...i might bring in models too to pose for nude, oops nagbabasa ba sa forum misis nyo? hehehe:)

One of the reason why I became a photographer. I'm sure most of you have this internal reason too.
Seriously, when I was starting, I used GF, friends, neighbors, officemates as subjects. It became a very good practice for me. Now, my two kids are my main subject everytime I test new equipment. :)
nino_carandang 09-02-2006, 09:34 AM I got twins to model for you.
edlin_roguel 09-02-2006, 09:49 AM I got twins to model for you.

Jun_Tengco 09-05-2006, 10:24 AM Female model..... my daughter!
Tantin Tolledo 09-05-2006, 11:35 AM Wow, I didnt expect this thread to go this long.
Maybe I'm just lucky she likes to pose. If it were someone else, baka hindi ko mapa-pose. Here are some of my shots of her. No fancy lighting, just the 350D kit.
Anyway, Ross is having a couple of female models to shoot this week, so, lens-away muna from my GF. (and shouldnt show her the other model shots or else lagot ako).
Its not as impressive as it looks, as I'm just a point-and-shooter holding a DSLR.
:Grin: :Oops::RedEye:

I agree with you Amiel  other people ay napapa-pose ko ng gusto ko pero pag sa family ko na... hayyyy naku!!!
edu_singson 09-05-2006, 03:42 PM My usual model are my nephews... but again, child portraits are really hard! Its difficult for them to stay still!!!
So I will do my best to go to Thursdays@OWG to practice my portrait shots... it's a good thing my wife has even mentioned her interest to join me because she wants to touch up on her photography!
Hope to meet you guys there!
egayfaro 09-05-2006, 05:09 PM I agree with you Amiel  other people ay napapa-pose ko ng gusto ko pero pag sa family ko na... hayyyy naku!!! SUHOL. Because whenever I bought something that they really love...everything becomes authomatic. hehehe.
JitYanga 09-08-2006, 12:57 PM Many of my shots that I took, i use my GF as a model. If she is not around, my relatives and friends comes to next so may variations ako..
edlin_roguel 09-08-2006, 01:14 PM When I was in bora last April, I talked to a group of tourist teens if they can pose for me. Pumayag naman. And here is a sample shot...
