View Full Version : K10D Limit of Bulb Exposure
Randall Cipriano 10-26-2007, 10:50 AM I experimented last night how long the K10D can hold bulb with a single fully charged DLI50.
I got 4440 seconds before the camera saved the image and turned itself off. That's 2 hours 14 minutes. Unfortunately since it was a near full moon last night the sky just burned out even at f/22, ISO100. :( Anyway, I was more interested on testing the limit of bulb than getting a picture. It was interesting though that after I turned the camera back on again the battery indicator was still at full and I could still take pictures not greater than 32 seconds. Anything longer the 32s, the camera shut-off automatically. It did save the images first before it shutdown.
I don't think the grip would've helped since the K10D doesn't use it at the same time. Anyhow, I'll make sure to try it out too. :)

This is the main reason why I cant use DSLRs for deep sky photography. Usually it takes about 8 minute exposures for a single nebulae to be visible on prints.
Randall Cipriano 10-26-2007, 10:59 AM Here's Bob West's night photos. Great star trails using a K10D, *istDS2 and film!

jay jallorina 10-26-2007, 11:16 AM burning out the camera huh? hehehe....an excuse to get the K10D super? :D
jay jallorina 10-26-2007, 11:17 AM even without the moon in the sky, very long exposures of the sky will tend to burn out given that there is still too much scattered city light bouncing of the low atmosphere. its best to try this stuff in the mountains.....or anywhere far from urban areas/civilization.
