Francis Tuason 09-01-2006, 04:54 PM the online store seems to be ok. It has lots of positive feedback.
I guess, it's safe... i suggest not to use your credit card, instead make a money order.
Before buying, make sure of the warranty.
Earl Gonzalez 09-01-2006, 05:00 PM "Caveat Emptor"... Jennifer specially at ebay. :)

JonDexterTan 09-01-2006, 05:16 PM hi jen! being from Davao and not having so many places to shop, ebay is our first stop. a lot of us from my group buy in ebay, my E-1, 14-54mm lens, bag, my friend's D50, E-500 kit, E-300, D50 grip, 24-120mm VR lens, etc. haha. point is, as long as you know where to buy it's all good. by the way, sayang philpay didn't get to renew it's paypal account as we;ve been using paypal to get stuff until march of this year. we're limited to credit cards and USPS postal money order via www.philpay.com. philpay can be trusted, once paid for 18K++ and the deal got cancelled and philpay returned the amount to me with only 50petot less for bank fees. :D anyhoo, tough luck with paypal, look for sellers with Money Order in the US. :D

Earl Gonzalez 09-01-2006, 05:18 PM yeah kinda true..have u experience this or som friend of urs?
Me and my friend... But he was the one who got ripped off, not me. :D I was able to bail out quick but he was persistent in pursuing the transaction... So it got him...
Be careful with stuff like... "Send the money first and we'll get back to you ASAP after we receive payment..."
Francis Tuason 09-01-2006, 05:19 PM since it is an established company in florida(as it said in the ebay site, you can try to call their 800 number first just to check) i think it would not be too risky to use paypal. It's risky if you transact with an individual that has a paypal account....
JonDexterTan 09-01-2006, 05:29 PM jen my sister in mississauga toronto also gets stuff from ebay using paypal. :D we get it straight to here na, mas mura and takes a little while lang rin. :D EMS is the best and economical way to ship, ask your seller.

Yeah pero, like nino said, which is true... Paypal doesn't support "The Philippines"... :( Well not yet for that matter...
Francis Tuason 09-01-2006, 05:37 PM Earl,
My suggestion was on the premise that Ms. Jennifer's sister has a paypal account in Canada, i think....:)
Amiel_Mercado 09-01-2006, 06:08 PM Anyone tried myusmailbox (http://www.myusmailbox.com) yet? Someone suggested this. Their office is near where mine is and i'll check it out on Monday and post my findings here.
According to them you can purchase anything on the internet cause it will give you a virtual US address.
Tok Paler 09-01-2006, 06:09 PM I usually order through B&H. Haven't encountered any problems yet =) I just use my credit card for the transactions
JonDexterTan 09-01-2006, 06:13 PM hi jen, silly me I didn't notice the link you posted. let me link you my favorite and trusted ebay store, Cameta (http://stores.ebay.com/Cameta-Camera_Digital-Cameras-Nikon_W0QQcolZ2QQdirZQ2d1QQfsubZ3QQftidZ2QQtZkm). I linked the nikon sale page coz I noticed your link also was at that store's nikon page. anyhoo, I have (and my friends) purchased more than a few times from Cameta. guaranteed 100% reliable. I pay through credit card. They send the package to you via EMS a day or 2 after payment confirmation. and you pick up your package in the EMS window sa local post office mo (i never wait for the parcel notice, takes more than 2 weeks while EMS gets your package to your end in 4 days average). Pay a few taxes, always mention it's for hobby use only.
take the Cameta route jen, it's tested na. :D

eric_javier 09-01-2006, 08:44 PM Hi Jen,
I been purchase on that ebay store, Be warned, I bought a D70s with 28-70mm & 70-300mm Lens, all their item is GRAY Market, second some of the accesories that they put on the bundles will not be ship. Luckily some of my items arrives but still waiting on my alluminun cases that they promise and it's more than a year already and to tell you the truth i dont even think about it. because i got the most expensive things camera & Lenses & SB800. I try Cameta too and buy some item, but it's been cancel because of my Shipping Destination, but that's was before, maybe now is okay.
In my experience if you are dealing like $1600.00 worth of item, you like to get a good customer service, which the digitalcorp dosen't have. there good on getting your payment but for follow up you will be scared. I highly recommend CAMETA just for my experience because i talk to there customer service, I have a good talk to them and there are very polite on their customer which is opposite on Digital Corp.

Earl Gonzalez 09-02-2006, 04:12 PM how much did you pay for the tax(customs duties) of these items?
Hi Vince, for anything above 100 USD; for tax and customs duties a good estimate would be around a range of 13-15% premium added to the cost of the merchandise or items you bought... I just got this estimate formula of mine based on the charges I get in the customs receipt... Take note, this still does not include the shipping fee for whatever courier the store used to send your stuff...:)
PS: Make the simple formula a cost estimate guide but not an exact computation reference. :)
JonDexterTan 09-02-2006, 07:17 PM how much did you pay for the tax(customs duties) of these items?
hi vince. let me see if I remember everythign correctly ha. first dumating an E-300 kit, around 450usd, paid the post office 35petot. E-500 2 lens kit, 580usd, paid post office 2,500petot. Nikkor 24-120VR, 380usd, paid 35petot. E-1 body, 460usd, 800petot. ZD 14-54mm lens, 415usd, 35petot. the others like oly shld-2 grip and extension tubes and om lenses, 35 petot.
take note that all the items i mentioned were opened by a customs officer and i was asked if I use these professionally. I said no. I also noticed they would tax more for camera bodies. they don't mind the lenses. Also, cameta ships with declared values as is, they dont declare it as gifts! :D

louie_lao 09-02-2006, 08:59 PM Hi guys! Can someone help me out on this? I was thinking of getting this...
http://www.ebay.ph/viItem?ItemId=120027163841
I read previous posts regarding buying from Ebay in this forum and others as well. So far, I'm really worried about this one. I e-mailed the person and this was our conversation...
Him:
no problem.
we both don't want to be scammed.
think about it.
regards
Me:
Thank you for your quick replies sir! Will think about it first. I'll just e-mail you my details if I'll push through! Thanks again!
Him:
yes, you are right about the price. we will only complete the transaction trough ebay, so we are both insured. please send the data so we can complete the
deal
regards.
Me:
If ever, this will be my first purchase on Ebay...how can I be assured that I won't have any problems with the unit? By the way, I'm from the Philippines, how much would the shipping costs be? So the unit will be around P39,000, right? So sorry for the questions...I'm just concerned.
Him:
Well than, how doaes Euro 600 sound like, and transaction completed with ebay assistance? If you agree to the price, send me your full anme and address, so I can contact my ebay consultant, and he will find a safe and fast way to finish the deal.
Please reply soon with this info:
Full Name:
Street address:
City:
Zip/Postal:
Country:
Waiting immediate reply.
Best Regards.
Me:
I actually don't know how I'll price this camera because I might give a price that would be too low or too high for your liking. I'm also worried purchasing things from Ebay because I heard that a lot of people are being fooled. Sorry for the hassle sir!
Him:
Please just tell me how much can you offer for the camera? maybe we can have a deal. Reply soon please.
Regards.
Me:
Hi Sir! This is a great deal at its current price! I'm really wanted to get this camera but I got a Nikon D70s because the D200 is too expensive for me. Though I'm willing to sell what I have now for this one. Hahaha!
Anyway, may I know where you bought the camera? I mean was it bought here in the Philippines or outside the country...asking for warranty purposes.
Oh, if you have any plans on letting go of the lenses you bought, please do let me know because I want to get some lenses but can't afford them. Lucky for you, you were able to get cameras and accessories for free or at a really low price.
I know the price of this item will definitely go up when the time is almost up. So I'll probably won't be able to get it. But just in case, is there any way to pay for it some other way? Like not using the services of Ebay.ph...cash on delivery or something like
that?
Well, again, this is a great offer and hope you do get a very good deal for this amazing equipment. Thanks sir!
Louie
Well, that was our conversation. I hope it's okay to share it here. From what I noticed, a lot of my questions were not answered or was it because I was being too nosy? Sorry guys! I'm just a bit new to this so I want to ask the opinion of other people. Thanks in advance! :)
Earl Gonzalez 09-02-2006, 09:08 PM Louie, still hard to judge... If I were you I'll ask the person's contact number and call him up... So at least the conversation would be more direct and at least you can get better cues from the person's tone... if it's a BS deal or not... :)
louie_lao 09-02-2006, 09:14 PM Thanks for the idea Earl! While I was reading the replies I started to worry because some of my questions weren't answered. The person just joined Ebay and had no feedbacks yet. It definitely got my attention! Oh well, I'll just think about it. Will probably get a new lens instead of upgrading the body! :) Thanks again! :D
dave_deluria 09-02-2006, 09:24 PM Saw it, it's a scam.
Simple rules on ebay.ph
Don't trust anybody from outside the Philippines because ebay.ph can't and will not assume any liability from transactions. Ebay.com is more legitimate.
If it's too good to be true. It must be.
If the seller comes from Romania, back away. It's the European equivalent of Nigeria.
Here's the giveaways,
Item Location: Legaspy
Currency 600 Euro
Plus, the scammer is still answering your e-mail because all he wants to do is reel you in when an item priced like that in ebay.com would have been sold immediately.
If your correspondence was via email you can read the header information on his email and trace the IP to the country of origin.
louie_lao 09-02-2006, 09:38 PM Thank you Sir Dave! I posted in two forums because I wanted to get opinions of different people. But yours is enough for me. :D Didn't know that you could trace the country of origin using the IP...no idea about those things. Again, a HUGE thanks to you sir for letting me know all these. :)
randy_bautista 09-03-2006, 02:13 AM Have you guys checked out our local ebay portal? I was browsing a few mins ago and came across this gem... Might be dubious due to the price but if it's legit then it might be a great bargain...
D200 body with an extra batt, bag and a few other knick-knacks... all for 38k PhP. Seller's in Legaspi though so no chance to eyeball the item...
http://www.ebay.ph/viItem?ItemId=120027163841
Oh, as a reply to the thread, I;ve bought stuff from local ebay as well as ebay-US. Local ebay is easy since you can ask the guy to meet ya somewhere to look at the item in person. Easier to haggle too! For Ebay-US it's more complicated. I usually just get weird stuff there like out of print books, toys and memorabilla and these tend to be on the cheaper side of things.... The seller's reputation from feedback comments speak a lot about 'em so make sure to look at those before buying.
And I agree, "caveat emptor" as one poster said...
By the way... was in columbia megamall yesterday (near the ice rink) and they had a pricelist up with the D70 kit (not D70s) selling at 33k Php... Also had the D2x and D100 on sale.
