To Yashica owners,

Do you know where i can buy (here or abroad, online or whatever) the 6V's battery used in Yashica Electro GN cam? I believe its not really a common battery size. Is there any makeshift way of using any other battery?

Not sure if Hidalgo has it...

TIA :)

i had an opportunity to buy an almost brand new electro gn sometime a year ago. it was unused and was only taken out of the box twice. the guy wanted 30 dollars for it but was honest enough to warn me that i might have a problem getting a battery for it. he said the reason was that particular battery had excessive mercury content and they stopped manufacturing them. if they have replacements, i havent heard.

Actually same case here... I bought it from a friend. The Yashica i bought was in an ok condition (not brand new, but obviously well taken cared of). He said he last used it 4-5years ago (even showed me the pics he took with it). He wanted a new home for it because he felt its in better use of some photo-addict like me. hehehehe

He warned me that he can't find a battery for it. But the optimist in me felt that somewhere out there, there's a genius who found other ways of powering up this baby.

In case I can't find a battery, i'm stuck with a classic camera used as a paper weight. :)

Hopefully, some of the guys here have any other ideas (or resources).

You want the 4LR44 battery. I got mine from Columbia Photo, SM Megamall a few years back. It should be available from larger photo shops.

L-R: Yashica GSN, 4LR44 battery w/ duct tape, small stainless steel spacer, GSN battery cap.

I've seen some mods on the internet where they used a spring as a spacer, or a stack of 10-centavo coins.

Wow... Great!!! Thanks a lot!!! :) :) :)

I'll try to check for this 4LR44 battery around. If not, I'll check some internet stores.

Btw, would you know how long 1-battery last?

Thanks again!

Not sure how long it lasts. I've had my GSN for about 2 years, and I've only had less than 20 rolls of film through it.

You can also use 4 ea. of LR44 watch batteries stacked on top of each other.

Here's where I got the original info:

My setup: 4LR44 battery and lots of spacers. I used 10 centavo coins as spacers :)
I have also tried out 4x LR44 batteries. They work like a charm too (10 centavo coins stacked at the bottom, not in between)

Thanks for this... Would you know if LR44 batteries are available in DIY and Handyman shops? Or should I make a trip to Hidalgo just for this? :)

You can find LR44 batteries almost every where, where watch batteries are sold. These are common alarm clock batteries. It was also used with old film cameras. Either LR44 or S76. They are of the same size and voltage rating. But i guess S76 are more expensive.

Personnaly I never go to Hidalgo for anything. I was there one, left totally unimpressed, I think the place is a sh_t hole full of sharks.

You should manage to get the LR44 battery's in watch repair shops or try Fuji Wells. Or do as I do... order stock from E-Bay....... Wein cells anybody!!

just got myself a yashica electro gsn too.

I use 4 pcs LR44 batteries, with 7 10 centavo coins for spacers and an extra spring. Aside from that the batteries are wrapped in a foam sleeve to ensure a better fit into the chamber. This setup was already put into place by the previous owner so all I had to do was replace the batteries in the sleeve.

The camera is bigger than I expected, but I've always wanted to try a rangefinder and its a good way to start. Really enjoying it so far.
