One of the first thing that I shoot during weddings are the rings. When I arrive at the hotel room or house of the bride, it's either they haven't had their make-up on or make-up is in progress. I start off shooting the accessories such as invitation, cord, bible, etc. This is also the time when my energy is fully charged.

http://www.anseldeilara.com/pics2/ring.jpg

This is the classic way to do it. Put it on top of the invitation or bouquet. I do this kind of shot in all of my weddings.

Due to popularity of butterfly release in weddings, it makes a good shot to include the butterfly.

As an alternative to invitation, souvenir card or name tags is also a good background.

What can I say? It's really an honor learning from a master... Please continue Dino. Awesome imagery. :)

In addition: Just a bit more... I hope some of your style rubs on me. :) Nice shots really.

The beauty of doing the preparation in bride's house is we see a lot of thing you won't see in a hotel room.

I placed the rings in the corkboard together with the invitation.

Thanks Earl. :)

For newbies and wedding photographer wannabees, this is something you can do to practice. Borrow wedding rings from your brother or sister or friends and be as creative as you can be.

Mr. Dino,

Did you use macro lens to shoot these rings? What kind of lens? I have a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Macro Super II but it doesn't take a 1:1 macro.

Thanks,

Marco

yupyup! most imitated talaga hehehe... my mentor requires this pose in almost all our shoots and always says: "wag kalimutan mag-dino lara"

sir dino, your wedding rings photos are all so inspiring... thanks so much for sharing those photos... next time i shoot for my boss, iisipin ko na lang si sir dino ang boss ko and i could be most creative as i could be instead of thinking what my boss always tells me: "di na masasama sa album yang ganyan kaya wag na ganyan"...:(

thanks again sir dino!

I use Sigma 105 macro for really close-up shot. But most of the shot posted were done using normal lens. Your 70-300 might be too long for close-up shot. Most ring shot are done inside the room, so your aperture and focal length might not be suitable.

Thanks. It really takes a little practice to do such ligthing. As you do it, you'll find yourself playing until you can come up with more creative shot.

OT: Please coordinate directly with One Workshop Group c/o Ross. We are trying to limit the number of participants so we can have more sharing as possible.

Sometimes. Most of the time I use window light to do my ring shots. If I know the videographer, I borrow their lights. The best lighting I've used is Dedolight.

Hi Earl!

Actually I followed his advice and did some saturation and curves adjustments on my photo and there was a big difference. Here (http://www.f3mphotography.com/images/DigiPhoto/DSC_1971.jpg)'s the original untouched photo. Or maybe I just didn't know what I was doing at the time... :(

Yup I noticed the difference. :) I hope no one misinterprets my statement... Of course adjustments in post processing are definitely a plus. But you can also definitely capture something which is bursting with saturation even without the aid of Photoshop etc... Sometimes it depends on your technique and how well you know your gear...

PS: Coming from a post-processing-super-freak like me, I know it's hard to believe... But it's true... :D

I agree with you on that, but really sometimes it all depends on what your clients will prefer and having more knowledge in post processing area really helps, and being able to produce shots that doesn't require much processing is still the best.

Still learning, its really a never ending learning process.

@ John Javellana - I like the concept of the bride showing off the rings... IMO, it might have been better if the DOF wasn't too shallow so that the bride's face wasn't too blurred. :)

yeah that's what my mentor said also! that was taken on my first outing with a 2.8 that's why i got so fascinated with the bokeh! (my mentality was the blurrier, the better!) thanks for the suggestion master earl! appreciate it! :)

Nice concept but the fact that it has a combination lock means it can still be opened. Better if it is a key lock with the keyhole covered by glue etc. Without the words, maybe it will stand, but with a different meaning (divorce possible?). He he he. It's just me.

This thread reminded me of a shot my partner and I came up with some time ago. It's a similar idea, but a different execution. :)

The idea of putting the rings on top of Bible passage occured to me then, and while I was setting it up, my partner suggested using his keychain light for some emphasis on the rings and the Marriage passage. :)

Newbie here.... Sorry for the over delayed reaction on the ring shot with heart reflection. Tried this yesterday and here's what I got... Used a hand-held flashlight to produce the reflections... :)

Surprisingly, the light also turned out as heart shape. :)
