I don' know of a specific place locally (I don't get around as much as I should), but you can by online at www.eastgear.com (http://www.eastgear.com/). The shop is based in Singapore, but they deliver worldwide. I've made several purchases there, and quite happy with their service.

A bit OT: Just to share an experience, I bought something there and had it shipped to Canada... it was a lot cheaper than buying from Amazon and having it shipped to Canada.

Yep. Credit card payments. They go for $6.45 per pack of 2, 2000Mah (plus shipping, of course. Last time I ordered, I paid around $12 for shipping). Without the shipping cost, the price of the batteries are cheaper.

Alhtough a little pricier, works for me because I can't find the time to go around as much as before. :)

and it's 2400mAh... not bad for the price of 300 petot per 4-pieces pack :D

i use both eneloops and cdrking for my flashes and they're both very good.... i got the cdrking AA batts for P300 per set which is still the price indicated on their website but i checked a few weeks ago they have increased to P400 per set (still very reasonable).... eneloops are P640 per set at watsons in hidalgo.

I went thru several cheap ones before and my experience was that my batteries didn't hold thier charge for very long. From what I've read, the chargers that do trickle charging and battery discharge are better (ex. MAHA chargers). I'm currently using Energizer rechargeables and my PDX70 image tank as my charger (takes about 3 hours to charge 4 pcs AA). I can leave my battries on the DS for weeks and still hold their charge.

I guess the 15min charger's do not have refresh ability to keep the batteries last long enough. I know sony has one but it's cost round 2500 to 3000.

Just to add, unless the battery was truly designed for fast charging, fast chargers shorten the lifespan of the battery.

CD-R King batts are what I use... they rock! I tried the ones from the battery something stall (forgot the name), and I must say CD-R King batts are way better... I also use PowerBase batts which come with the PowerBase fast charger with the trickle charging thing and they too are decent but CD-R ones are better... the charger though is great! I use a separate charger for discharging (it's a standard charger that takes 15 hours to charge, I use it sometimes since long charging the batts seem to work better. But I haven't been discharging anymore since I read that NiMH rechargeable batts don't have any memory effects anyway... only the NiCD ones reuire discharging... AFAIK.

I'm using Ansman rechargeable batteries right now and it's great.. Heard GP is better but the price is way much.. Saw one in Ace Hardware.. almost 1k for
2AA's:Grin:.. hahaha..

By the way, they say fast chargers decreases lifespan of rechargeable batteries.. Most recommends chargers that charge between 1-5 hours:Grin:

when i bought my k100d in camerahaus glorietta, the saleslady gave me rechargeable cr-v3 batteries as freebies. i asked her if its ok with the k100d, she said it was ok so i took it.

my sister brought my camera for her korea trip right after we bought it. last wednesday she returned along with the camera. she told me that she was experiencing problems with the cam and batteries (crv3) that the cam does not indicate if the battery is half empty or drained, it just shuts off and makes funny noises, whirring inside the cam etc.

i just am recently reading the manual and found out that the k100d should only be used with a nonrechargeable crv3 because rechargebles have a voltage problem. maybe this is what's causing the "malfunctions".

i am thinking of returning to camerahaus but i dont know what to do when i get there. will i have the k100d exchanged for a new body because the battery they gave me might have damaged the cam? do i ask for new and better batteries? do i ask for a refund? do i have a strong case? are there attorneys in the house? please help. thanks. im going there this sunday.

as of now, i have yet to encounter the cam's malfunctions but i dont want to wait for it to happen. the batteries are generic "for digital cameras RCR-V3 Li-Ion rechargeable battery. made in taiwan."

help please. thanks.

josephnoelreyes

alan,

sorry to hear that. they probably gave you a bad set. why not go back to camerahaus and tell them what happened and ask them to replace the batteries with double A's. i don't think anyone here in the forum has tried RCR-V3 rechargeable Li-ions so i can't offer any feedback.

i brought the cam to camerahaus glorietta last saturday, they said they had no technician in the house to look at it. they told me to call supereast asia in sta cruz so i did. the guy who answered the phone told me to bring the camera to their office but i havent gotten around it yet. no time to get out of the office e...

as for the cam, when i first bought it, i can feel the vibration of the sr inside. now, i cant feel it anymore... and in the menu, the shake reduction option is grey and i cant select it. although the cam is taking ok pictures, im concerned if its getting more damaged by the battery. im still using the rcv3.

hope it hasnt done anything permanent to the cam. otherwise, ill ask for camerahaus to replace the unit because they gave me batteries that damaged the cam...

has anybody used recharcheable crv3's? any problems?

hi allan, I also have a 28-80 Manual Lens with me, and I got mine at camerahaus in glorietta. As for rechargeables, instead of looking for crv3 batteries, I went for the traditional AA rechargeables from Sony (kit which included a rapid charger), it's quite compact and doesn't need any cable since the charger directly plugs into the wall socket.

SR?

ask for a replacement.

recently, a guy bought a 540 fgz at a local pentax store. he tested it out at the store, paid for it and brought it home with him. a week later he's back demanding a replacement on the following grounds:

1. the flash makes a loud noise when it zooms in and out while the camera's lens zooms. (it's a mechanical thing. pretty much standard behavior on the 540)

2. the front of the flash unit is not as white as the other flash unit he saw from another photog's unit. (the plastic that protects the bulb? i don't know what you call it, anyway... mine wasn't pure white to begin with)

3. he doesn't want a demo unit. (you'd immediately know if you're buying a demo unit right at the store.)

anyway, the store tells me the guy then reads from a six-page (?) DTI document siting a rule that in case a replacement unit is not available then a refund is in order.

what's my point?

there are rules that protect us consumers, unfortunately we are not fully aware of the protection the law provides us.

there are VALID concerns and complaints we consumers have and we have the right to have the supplier look into these valid complaints and address them within the bounds of what is right and according to proper procedure.

OTOH, we are also responsible for checking, evaluating and testing the items we buy BEFORE we finally pay for it. of course we should be certain that if we take in the item for servicing under warranty, the cause of the defect is NOT DUE TO MISHANDLING or to some other subjective negative observation.

we take care of our gear. we've considered a lot of things before we bought our gear, including where to buy it. i hate it when a service center just dismisses our observations/comments on what probably happened - parang ang tanga natin, we're not technicians - and goes on to categorically say it's THIS or THAT. it would be better to say "don't worry po, we'll find out what's really wrong and have it fixed for you."

that's what we were taught in marketing class in college - we go into business TO SERVE THE CUSTOMER'S NEEDS.

Bong Reyes

The story of the guy is very much the same as in my case. However, my specific complaint on the zooming mechanism is the "grinding" sound when you zoom back from 58mm to 16mm. Zooming from 16mm to each point does not produce the same grinding sound. This "grinding" sound is not like the zooming mechanism sound in the 360.

Another complaint that I raised was the locking mechanism on the flash head. The manual states that you can only tilt it by pressing the button on the side (knew only when I read the manual the night I bought the flash).

In the case of the yellowish bulb cover, it should be normal as you stated.

Also, in my case before I went to the store, I called up the saleslady and asked if they have new stocks. The saleslady told me that they have and that how many would I want to buy. When I got to the store, they only had one and assured me that it was only for display and had not been used. Should i have known that it was a "DEMO" unit, I would not have bought it the first time.

By the way I bought mine from their store on a Saturday and they are closed on Sundays. First thing Monday morning I called them up and that they should expect me at their store in the afternoon.

Here is an excerpt of the DTI document that I read to them:

On the "No Return, No Exchange" Prohibition (R.A. 7394)

1. Q: What is the legal basis of the prohibition on "No Return, No Exchange" Policy of business establishments?

A:Pursuant to the Implementing Rules and Regulations of R.A. 7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines, specifically Title III, Chapter I, Rule 2, Section 7 of Department Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2, series 1993, the words "No Return, No Exchange", or words to such effect shall not be written into the contract of sale, receipt or sales transaction, in any document evidencing such sale or anywhere in the store or business establishment.

2.Q: What is the rationale for this provision?

A:The prohibition is aimed to correct the misconception of a lot of consumers that they do not have the right to return shoddy or defective goods or demand for remedies in case of defective or imperfect service because of the "No Return, No Exchange" notice in the receipts or anywhere in the business establishment.

3. Q:Why is the presence of a "No Return, No Exchange" notice considered deceptive?

A: Such statement is considered deceptive because consumers may return or exchange the goods or avail of other remedies in case of hidden faults or defects, or any charge not known to the buyer. By provision of law, sellers are obliged to honor their implied warranties and grant corresponding remedies to consumers.

4. Q: Can business establishments still issue Official Receipts with the "No Return, No Exchange"?

A: Business establishments with unused Official Receipts should erase or blot out the words "No Return, No Exchange" before issuing such receipts and henceforth, such words should no longer be printed in their receipts or anywhere in their business establishments.

5.Q: If an item bought from Store Y turns out to be more expensive than a similar item in Store X, can the customer return the item and ask for a refund?

A: No, while the consumers have the right to choose and make a canvass of prices, once the sale is consummated and the product has no defect, one cannot return the goods nor ask for a refund.

6. Q: Can the store exercise only a policy of exchange but no refund?

A: Consumers are entitled to either an exchange or refund, as long as there is a defect in the quality of goods or imperfection in the service.

7.Q: If the defect is due to mishandling on the part of the buyer, can he still return the item and demand an exchange or refund?

A: No, the prohibition covers only hidden defects, shoddy goods or imperfect service.

8. Q: If after buying a certain item, a customer changes his mind and wants to return said item, can he invoke the prohibition on "No Return, No Exchange"?

A: No, the prohibition is not an excuse for the consumers to return the goods because of a change of mind.

9. Q: Is there a time limit within which a buyer may return defective products?

A: There is no hard-and-fast rule on the period within which a customer may return the products he purchased. A rule of reason should, however, be observed, taking into consideration the nature of the item purchased and the express/implied warranties mandated by law, i.e. the Consumer Act and the New Civil Code of the Philippines.

10. Q: Can a buyer return defective goods without the Official Receipt?

A: The Official Receipt is the best proof of purchase. However, a buyer may still demand replacement or refund if he can prove that a defective item was bought from a certain store.

11. Q: Can a store print in their invoices the statement "Exchange of merchandise will not be accepted without a valid receipt or other evidence of purchase"?

A: No, because there may be goods exclusively manufactured or sold by a company and there is no need to prove purchase of the item.

12. Q: Can a store impose the condition that merchandise can only be exchanged once?

A: No, because merchandise can be exchanged as many times as these are defective as long as the consumer chooses the option of replacement.

13. Q: What should a consumer do in case a store is found violating the prohibition on "No Return, No Exchange" policy?
A: He/She can file a complaint with the DTI, with the following information
the names and addresses of the complainant and the firm/entity being complained about;

sooo..... just a question:

I bought the CD-R King battery pack (4 AA NiMh batts + charger) the other day, and proceeded to charge the batts... Do I need to wait for all of the lights to go green before I stop charging? Or do I take out those that are green already and wait for the red ones to go green?

How exactly should you go about correctly charging your batteries?

I had trouble with the CDR-King chargers so I went and got myself a fast charger from Powerbase, with 4 rechargeable batts as well... I think it costs just 700. Not bad for a fast charger and an extra set of batts(albeit 1800mAh).

just got my k100d from super east asia. its finally ok. they said it was the battery that was causing the problems. but with other batteries, the cam is ok. no permanent damage. thanks sir joey for the post. tomorrow i will have my rcrv-3s replaced with rechargeable aa's in camerahaus. i hope they cooperate or i will read to them what is posted here. :D mahaba haba rin to! (will take me all afternoon, reading deliberately slowly).

what problem did you have with the cdr king batts and charger? i was planning to buy a set as my secondary power source.

btw, does higher mAh ratings do anything bad to electronics like dslrs? or is it just a case of the higher the longer?

dont use fast chargers. they shorten the life of your rechargeables.

@alan: i'm glad your cam issue has been addressed. i just don't like the way they treat us when we have valid complaints. i hope that aside from changing your batteries they'd also change the way they deal with us. if we don't buy from them, they won't have salaries to take home.

Woah, each have their own light indicator for charging? well, if the lights didn't go out, I'd suggest to pull out the green lighted batteries. I'm not sure with those brands as they might continue charging your batt more than it needs to (and may explode).

Like I said before, I like my sony battery charger very much (it turns off by itself once it's charged)

@Paolo: AFAIK, CD-R King chargers are not Smart Charger hence you need to unplug it when it reach the charging time (hours)... as for me, i'm using a Sanyo Quickcharger (around 3-4 hours charging... will take much longer if you do the discharging [refresh function]) that automatically turns off when the charging is done...

powerbase chargers are also a capable) charger... but as said by Ptr, Joey Reyes, stay away from the fast chargers (rapid) as it forces your batteries to take a much higher mAH range while charging thus making it charged in an hour...

@Alan: good to hear that your camera's a-OK! :)

Franz A.D. Morales

@Paolo: My Powerbase charger is a fast charger that charges 1800mAh batts for about 3 hours, while 2800mAh ones for 6 hours more or less. It has a trickling charge function which means that after the batts are fully charged, the charger maintains the charge instead of turning right off and letting the batteries' charges slowly get discharged. I replaced my CDR-King chargers because the indicator lights stay red all the time. But the CDR-King batts are designed for fast chargers(so the tech people of CDR-King say) so it's safe to use them with fast chargers.

@Winston: Thanks for the tip! Sakto, pwede ko puntahan during lunch break. :)

Just an added irritation I have with the CD-R King charger: When I charge the batteries, it usually happens that not all 4 lights go green at around the same time. I experimented a bit and noticed that when I pull out the batteries that are already "greened" and then put them back again, the light becomes red again for quite sometime before it becomes green again. Then, I do it over and over again, and the same things still happens in decreasing lengths until permanently green na yung light even if I "toggle" the batts...

I'ev had a bad experience with the Sanyo AA's from 2005 (when I got my DS), so I switched to Kodaks (hoping they have better quality). After about 6 months or so of light use, these AA's seem to lose their charge in about a week (without being used at all), and those with some remaining charge might work for a few shots then quit! I'm planning to buy the CDR-King and Eneloops from wht I've heard on the forum.
Thanks...

Sonys are ok batteries, since their Stamina line, though I'd suggest to get replacements after say a year of use (constant) like I did with my old Sony Point and Shoot Camera.

I was going to ask my friend to buy me a fresh pair of CD-R King batteries since he's passing by a CD-R King store before dropping something at my house. I browsed through the CD-R King website to show him what they look like. They seem to have a new type called "Ecomax." They look stunningly like Eneloops. Anyone tried them yet?

I've been using Energizer nimh. made a mistake of buying uniross, they don't get fully charged after overnight charging and get discharged after 2 days.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't nimh rechargables get discharged after a week or so even when not in use? Hence the coming of the 'hybrid' (retains charge like alkalines) batteries?

Anyone used GP's recycko batteries?

Hi Paul, I use GP's recycko, which I bought a set in HK last year. My experience is that they aren't as good as the eneloops and has some problems with the battery meter with the k100d (shows half empty pretty fast).

My opinion lang, stick to eneloops:)

For all my wireless mice, Eneloops are enough. I'm not too happy with it's charging time and performance with my flashes during weddings. GP's Recyko is also good to start with. I recently got my hands on two sets of Ansmann's Schumy series (2700mah). They are the bomb when it comes to batteries.

If anyone's interested CDRKing is now carrying Eneloop knock-offs. They are calling theirs as "Ecomax". They are being sold for P350 for a pack of 4 AA's. They are cheap enough that it is tempting to buy a pack just to try out.

What do you mean by 'knock-offs'? Are they the same batteries but just repacked or 're-branded' by CDR King?

Anyone experienced using these CDR-K's batteries?

I recently bought my second 4-batch of the normal CD-R King batteries.. My 540FGZ arrived the other day :D Anyway, I've been using the normal CD-R King batts since I got my K100D last November. I'm beginning to experience problems with them. The battery indicator on the camera signals half when I use it freshly charged. It sometimes reads empty. But after a few clicks, it suddenly reads full.. Hm...

For those who've also been using the normal CD-R King batts, how long did they last for you?

And yea, I saw those Ecomax batteries. Anyone dare to try them yet? :D

2 sets of my recheargeable batts are dying on me. my sanyo 2700 thatcame with my k100d october lastyear and a powerbas 2100 i got december last year. is this the typical battery life of recheargeables? 1 year? now im using cdr kings 2400s and soni 2500. they seem to work ok.

question, how do you guage the batteries useful years? how do you take care of recheargeables so it lasts as long as it can?

everynight before a shoot, i charge all my batteries up to full even if they are not empty yet. is this ok? or should i empty all my batts before charging themagain?

i dont want to buy recheargeables every year... maybe every two years is ok... :)

My experience with the CDR King 2400s is that you really have to drain them. From what I've read so far, it has something to do with the voltage drop. The K100d is sensitive to this and reads the batts as empty even though you just charged it a day ago..

With the CDR Kings, I dont think it lives up to the "no memory effect" claim. I have a flash light that uses 4 AA batts and I use that to drain my batteries before charging hehehe

I'll be getting a set of Eneloops soon for my K100d. The CDR King Batts are starting to frustrate me. I'll be using them for my flash unit instead of my camera.
