Yes, prices on some lenses are just 2 or 3 thousand difference from abroad but some are still almost P10T. Yet that is the price you pay for warranty and a 0% for 6mos. :D

I thought so

Some say that the new 70-200 HSM have problems w/ its AF. Some get them dead out of the box and AF tends to die when outside temps are high. Any experience like this spam?

One of the 70-200 I tested didn't AF but the 2nd was a stunner. Tempted really tempted. Love the wieght just wished it had OS.

haven't had problems with my 70-200. the only problem that i have right now is the paint is starting to chip off, but the lens works like a gem :D

i'm quite of with the lens not having OS, though it would be a nice addition though :D hehehehehe right now, i use the lens as a portrait lens, creamy bokeh for my taste:)

i'll just add the telecon so that longer focal range for the lens :D good thing the telecon will make the lens AF :D

this might be a bit ot, but what does HSM mean?

Spam Jalandoni
09-02-2007, 11:50 PM
hsm means, hyper sonic motor, it's the equivalent of the swm or silent wave motor for nikon :D bottomline is that both hsm and swm makes focusing silent :D sorry dunno what the canon conterpart is :D nikon eh :D hehehehe

ahh, got it. so that's the only difference from the cheaper version of the lens or is there anything else?

Faster AF and it will work on a D40 and D40x and I think (not sure) that the lens coating is different on the HSM models since its the newer version

Spam - Let me know the outcome of a teleconverter (2x?) on the 70-200 since I want a 400 focal range also. I think that Sigma is notorious for paint chip offs. Considering this since I have a D40x (w/c I gave to my GF kuno ) and not the nikkor 80-200. I have been having sleepless nights because of this lens :D

the non hsm version of the 70-200 will not AF with the d40/x because it doesn't have HSM :D

my first ever sigma lens was the 28-70 2.8-4 DG. i sold it after 2 months.

i now have for a year the better version and the best alternative to the Beast IMO. the Sigma 28-70 F2.8 EX is a very decent lens for those on a budget.

Ali - I guess the best would be the 18-50 2.8 and 50-150 2.8 or 70-200 2.8

I just wished Sigma will release a 28-70 2.8 HSM so that I can also use it on my D40x also a macro HSM (meroon ba?)

Ryan Sigma has this Macro HSM the APO MACRO 150mm F2.8 EX DG HSM. It costs 32,500 at JT. It's much lighter than your Sigma 70-200/2.8

John,

bro, Miggy and I tried this once while there was an exhibit in glorietta back then, I think it was FOTOFEST. I was planning to get one for my sony alpha and miggy brought his d80 and we tried it on his d80.

For me, its a good buy, its fast and clear. ask miggy also.
