Guys,
Am a newbie to this forum, and am planning to buy my first DSLR a K10D. My plan is to purchase as starter the K10D body, an AF540 flash, the battery grip and a good starter lens. I know lenses will be an investment in the future so need to start it right. Can you suggest one good starter lens. Are there other 3rd party lenses I can get? Future expansions - other lenses will be a welcomed suggestion too. Thanks.

hi. welcome aboard. glad you're considering the k10d. you won't regret it.
what lens to start with depends on what you're using it for - architecture/landscapes, portraiture, weddings/events, etc. your avatar shows a wedding shooter. is that you?
i use a sigma 18-125 on my k10d most of the time. i shoot weddings too. its a decent range for documenting events. but it will give way to the DA*s once available. (i have a small collection of pentax and non-pentax primes and zooms, each lens has its own purpose. am still adding to it.)
again welcome aboard. hope you can join the big pentaxian eb on sept 9.
God Bless.

Hi Joey,
Thanks for the warm welcome. Re my avatar - I took the picture while our friend was being photographed. We're in the wedding gowns business and would like to try my hobby in it. Unfortunately I lost most of my photos using my DX7590 when my pc crashed.
So suggestions for lenses for wedding & events will be most welcomed.

Welcome to DPP Arturo (do we call you Art?). IMO, the Pentax kit lens is a very good starter lens for it's price. My suggestion is to start with the kit lens and when you have defined your specific shooting needs/style, buy the best prime or zoom lens available in the market. For sure, the lenses will be an investment that will stay with you longer than the camera body (unless you switch brands).
BTW, feel free to add your name to the Pentax Roll-call list.:)

Hi Guys,
Talking about alternative lenses for the K10D , I am looking for an affordable telephoto lens. Will the Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG macro be a good buy at Php9800?
Thanks.

Yep I still use the kit lenses up to now. I only have the DA18-55, DA50-200 and I just recently acquired the DA10-17FE.
I'd also suggest looking at the Pentax DAJ 16-45mm f/4 or the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5.
