Well it was inevitable, DPP is now getting too much traffic that our current semi-dedicated server is on the verge of exploding because of too much load.
We're going to be moving to new and more powerful dedicated server later on this week. This move is aimed to resolve the slowness and high server loads of recent months, which have been causing page timeouts, 'server busy' messages and other problems. DPP is now receiving 60-70% more traffic than it was when the semi-dedicated server we are using now were set up, and this upgrade is crucial to help support the site's continued growth.
Since then we've progressed from a small shared hosting account accomodating a few hundred visitors a month to the site as it is today which now requires a dedicated server to accomodate thousands of unique visitors a month, and we're still growing.
I'll post a notice before the server move takes place, but for now we have no choice but to disable some features such as the Photographers Shoutbox (sorry DPP SB'ers please don't burn me at the stake), iSpy and other minor features to conserve server load while the server transfer is being processed. We might have to close down the forum temporarily later on if server loads still exceeds so as to prevent suspension of services.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience folks.
UPDATE (Aug29): DPP will suffer intermittent downtime and server timeouts during the server transfer which will start later today and will probably be offline for 24-48 hours due to propagation of the new IP address. We are hoping that the process of transferring to the new server will be finished by Saturday Sept. 1 :)
