I got a 7 out of 10. I just find it hard to believe how a graphic artist can make a rendition of a complicated thing to look like a the real thing. Well, it made me realize how advanced we are in this field.

If you're amazed with what photoshop can do... These stuff will blow you away. And in one aspect of it, PS is just an ingredient. Open your eyes people :) This is digital photography now...

OK, no problem with this as FAKE. I posted this to show you that even a newbie, like me, can render a relatively realistic ladybug.

I made this 4 years ago when I started doing CG as a hobby before I went into photography. This got a 4 star rating from the pros. You can check the thread here (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=32515). I go by the name Max 4U.

Hope you like it.

BTW, I got 8/10 in the quiz.

Tracy, Yup they used Maya and 3DSMAX... I use these softwares too. I just said Photoshop coz, you need this application for the creation of materials used to render surfaces and textures. But these 3D applications does already come bundled with materials, however, once your skill level goes considerably high already; the stock materials tend become inadequate, hence you're forced to create assets inside applications as Photoshop, as well as other softwares which can render vector files and components for 3D use. :)

9 of 10. yay! not bad, not bad at all! :D missed out on the nut and screw :)
i based my decisions on how real the textures were (plus indication of noise) and most importantly, how lighting would affect the subjects and the depths of the shadows they would supposedly cast... i guess that's why i screwed (excuse the pun) up with the hex-nut. :)

They use Autodesk software like the one I used to draw perspective for my building projects. which is AutoCAD 2007 for 3D rendering and merged to PS. Imagine you can see photographs of the proposed building (not yet constructed).

Yup MAYA user here as well... I find it easier for building fluid dynamics... However, I'm much more into 3DS coz I find it's modelling enviroment more suitable for my workflow, as well as if I need to work with kinematics. :)

that was fun guys! I made it to the bonus round on the first try with a 10/10, but got 3 out of 4 on the bonus round on one try!

The trick is finding the light source of the subject. CGs usually have defective light source and shadow patterns. that's how you check out the real photograph. Also look at the photograph's texture and flow of lines. an understanding of the general characteristics of various lenses would help you identify even simulated "bokeh" and fisheyes.

Realistic lighting is possible through IBL and lightprobes so it would be hard to determine what's natural and what's CGI.

Kind of OT: in one of our classes, we were required to render a glass half-filled with water with a Christmas decoration dipped inside in vector and it had to look realistic. O_O Maaaan that was a a challenge.

Got 10/10 on my first try. :) On the bonus round however... I got 3/4 on the first try. :Angry: Much tougher in the 2nd round.

The car's background also was very unrealistic.
