Anyway - who likes to shoot sports here?

I do. Have photographed some frisbee, soccer and swimming. I think there are other sports photographers here who have shot UAAP basketball. :)

I mostly shoot cycling and triathlon - when i'm not racing.
Is there a local association for this?

some say that sports photography is the one of the purest form of photojournalism... split second shots that either you got or missed.

On shooting UAAP sports. It depends really. Some less known sports are easier to shoot. Regular football games or volleyball games for instance. The difficulty is when the larger venues are used. Venues like Ultra or Araneta usually screen who gets to go on the floor. That's where accreditation comes in.

as for shooting uaap...well hehehe.. sabi nga ni dave black sa isang interview "first thing to worry about in sports photography is getting the pass/permit to shoot" and... its really hard..

it's mostly sneak your gear in and hope that no one notices that you dont have a pass. its sad but hey... you have to start somewhere. (im not proud of this and im trying my best so that next year i can get a legit pass to shoot)

yes you can as long as it's not in one of those large venues.

you can try shooting high school sports for practice. they'll be more than happy to have someone cover their games.

i would like to shoot sports. had the opportunity to shoot muay thai and rugby - both instances there was no need for any press id or pass

would like to shoot more mma like the urcc and other martial arts events and of course football...not interested in shooting basketball since it's not my thing

OT- there will be a muay thai event at the cuneta astrodome on sept 30; will check with the organizers about allowing people to shoot the fights

like hochi, i love shooting soccer or football. i'm a fan of basketball but i just can't seem to enjoy shooting it...

i've been able to shoot a couple of uaap ncaa basketball games without any press card or whatsoever. it was for my photojournalism class and all i had with me is my camera. i was even allowed courtside! i didn't even have to pay. i guess that's one of the perks of being a student! hehe.. i'll post the pics on my website once i get to have free time from schoolwork! hehe

Shot a couple of NBA Warriors games, had a friend who had season ticket seats located at the 5th row, had to sneak in my 300mm lens since they would check at the entrance for them (0k lang ang dslr with a short lens). Once inside they didn't care already are long as you didn't use a flash.

I also shot a lot of NFL - 49er games (also front row seats) but in the last 3 years they played so bad I turned my attention to shooting the cheerleaders.

I'd love to shoot at an NBA game...and I'd trade my first born to shoot at SuperBowl. Just kidding about the first born but I would do anything to get on the sidelines of the SuperBowl!

I'd also like to shoot a formula 1 race [and not just the race itself - the whole F1 weekend is amazingly fun!]. I suppose I'd also give anything to shoot the IronMan World Championships - aboard a scooter. Sanay na ako sumabit sa motorcycle while shooting!

as an amateur i find shooting indoor basketball really challenging. bad lighting, not having the 'right' equipment, following the game through the viewfinder and constant anticipation..but if i get a couple of nice shots...oh the joy..
