View Full Version : Basic photography
Willy Daleon 08-21-2006, 01:20 PM I am a newbie in photgraphy. I recently bought a Canon 350D
but I would like to know more about the basic of photography
(i.e., shutter speed, aperture, ISO, exposire and the like).
Though I know there are basic photography workshops around,
I am more inclined to have one-on-one session with a seasoned photographer.
Hope you guys can help me. Thanks.

JitYanga 09-08-2006, 01:08 PM Hi Sir Willy..
I am too new in this Photography world. We have both have in common, want to learn things.
Me, what I did is that I read-read-read all facts, documents, articles etc. that I could find to nourish my mind and after that put it into an action, "trial and error". Besides that I've joined different Photo Clubs and each clubs have their own get together to get in touch with fellow hobbyist..
So far, it did gave some few points that i need to have / get the kind of shots that I love.. But still there's so much to learn
Raffy Crucillo 09-08-2006, 01:15 PM Hi, Willy.
You may still opt to attend a short class about basic photography. The group experience contributes to the learning (like sharing pictures and ideas).
ed_canuto 09-09-2006, 04:46 AM Hi Willy,
You can start learning from the internet, that's what I did, then started attending advance photography classes later. You can start with this ones:
Found this in the net, you'll learn the fundamentals here(i.e., shutter speed, aperture, ISO, exposire and the like).:

Great wealth of articles from Luminous Landscape:

I learned it all from the Internet.

luzsantiago 02-11-2008, 12:44 PM here's one website where u can find almost everything about basic photography:
http://www.photolaureates.org/tutorial/basics/
Rolando Avecilla 02-11-2008, 01:08 PM Basic? Nothing could be basic than The Basics of Photography (http://www.pbase.com/wlhuber/the_basics). You need not spend so much to learn this art. This is art not a rocket science. So, if photography is a serius subject, and not just another "heat of the moment" for you, you MAY never need workshops. Besides, they will not teach you anything that you can not learn for yourself. All you need is to be resourceful.
But if you want to make photography a career, then I think you should consider FPPF. They breed top photographers and most of all, FPPF is a recognized body or institution in the Philippines.

Christian Fernandez 02-11-2008, 04:25 PM Mr. Willy may not be a newbie any more but I am. These links are really helpful.
The "newbie" websites that I have been reading lately are probably for MENSA members - with lightwave formulae and all those needless <r@p.
Thanks for resurrecting this thread and providing some links. :)

Exactly, I was googling on how to use a circular polarizer and this is what I got:
Blocking efficiency (%) = 100% · [1 - k · sin2(ø')]

RameloGusilatar 03-26-2008, 01:05 PM Hi there, I've compiled the links with learning and resources. Posted them in the "Learning Resources: Beginners and moving forward ..." thread, under Basic Photography. Hope to build this thread for online resources and the like to help in our learning. And, can we request this become a"sticky" as well? ( we need though to filter links to be virus free and be a legit one as well ) :)
RameloGusilatar 03-26-2008, 01:13 PM Here's the link (http://digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?p=363192#post363192) <-click here ... to the thread by the way. Cheers!
