hello... i'm planning to get the Pixma4300 since that's what my pocket can afford for now hehehe... however, my friend just got one but he's complaining about the gear mark on the prints? the marks are coming from the gear when the printer is pulling the paper... is there anyway to avoid this or he just got a lemon one?

also, my gf got the pixma3300, can someone shed a light for me where to get the icc profile of this printer? thanks thanks! :)

i use a pixma 4200 and a hp1280.. gear pulling the paper? or the one aligning the paper after printing? you know when the paper goes out of the printer.. if so, then there's nothing you could really do bout those marks. though they aren't that visible anyhow.. only at a certain degree..

you could try to ask sir jo avila if he has icc profiles for the 3300.. im sure you've heard or seen him in the threads..

Gear marks? you mean like lines on the prints?
I have encountered those during my earlier test prints. Those are brought about by a wrong setting. I was on 'plain paper' whenever that happens. Tinker with the printer settings.
As for the profiles, the cd already has some for basic Canon papers. Again, it's in the printer settings.

I have a Pixma4300 and so far, I am satisfied with it's output.

... as Jared said, Jo or and other print gurus may have a better advice :)

Hi Ryan,

The iP3300 iCC profiles should already be built into the driver. Is there any specific ICC profile for a specific paper that you need that isn't in the driver?

Could you clarify what you mean by gear marks? Personally, I have not encountered it while using the iP4300. :)

Thanks!

I know what Ryan is referring to :D It's the star shaped gear that comes in contact with the paper surface during printing.

Those marks are pretty light and are only visible upon very close scrutiny at certain viewing angles. But I'm hard pressed to see them most of the time. However, I have noticed that they are very visible on CD-R King paper (I don't know why though).

The ICC profiles for the papers supported by the iP4300 and iP3300 were installed in your computer along with the printer driver.

But I have created custom ICC profiles for the iP4300 and iP3300 :D

In fact, I'm creating a new custom ICC profile for the Canon iP6700D for printing on inkjet canvas.

Cheers!

Sorry for not explaining it well, good thing Jared and Jo know what i'm blabbing about. lol. I guess I'm just too OC when it comes to that. :D Didn't know about the ICC profile thing too. I hardly read manual, it makes life boring. jk. Would you mind sending the custom profile for IP3300, Jo?

Just last question, is there a big difference in terms of quality prints between the IP4300 and IP3300?

Thanks again everyone! :)

Read the manual before I send you a custom ICC profile.

That should make your life more exciting :D

Yes, there is a big difference in the quality of print output between the iP3300 and iP4300. The iP3300 only uses a document black ink. The iP4300 uses a document black ink for printing documents. But the iP4300 also has a photo black ink that it uses for printing images.

Thanks for the info... saw the info that the IP3300 is using a pigment ink for black while a dye and pigment for 4300.. is the pigment ink that bad?

Been using the iP4300 for a few months now and so far I find nothing to complain about. :)

@ Ryan

I personally find that the blacks of the iP3300 lack a certain richness when compared to the iP4300. Also, I don't think the pigment black is as lightfast as the CLI-8 black ink used by the iP4300.

@Jo,

If I may copy the ICC profile for my iP6700D :). Thanks for the ICC profile for the SG paper. The print now is much much better than using an alternative paper profile

@ Cocoy

The generic/canned profile of the iP6700D was already pretty good. All I did was create something that I felt was better.

I'll email you the profile for Fredrix Inkjet Canvas for the iP6700D once I get around to measuring the color patches. BTW, where do you intend to source Fredrix Inkjet Canvas? The profile will not work with any other brand of inkjet canvas :D

Cheers!

what's the profile setting for the gp 501?

pr1? pr2?

Jo Avila

GP 501 would be Canon Everyday Glossy Photo Paper right?

The profile for that is SG and not PR (which is Canon Photo Paper Pro).

The number at the end of each profile indicates print quality. The lower the number the better the print quality.

For example, if I were going to print on Canon Glossy Photo Paper on my Pro9000 using best photo quality the profile that I would have to use is Canon Pro9000 SG1.

Whoa! One roll of 901 24" by 40' costs $115! :BlackEye:

sir jo,

can you pm me the custom icc profiles you made for the 4300?

thanks.

@ Cocoy

You're looking at the wrong catalogue item! :D Fredrix Inkjet Canvas is sold in pre-cut sheets of A4 and A3. A pack of A4 has ten sheets and a pack of A3 has six sheets.

Check out this link:

@ Angel

Once again, I will have to assume that your display has been properly calibrated and profiled for you to make full use of the custom profiles. Using the custom iP4300 ICC profiles without a calibrated and profiled display will not make your printer magically produce great prints.

Also, PM me your email address. I don't think that attachments are allowed in PMs :D

Cheers!

You might also want to consider printing on Canon Fine Art Paper :D The print quality is a lot more impressive than canvas :D

anyone know where i could get the IP4300 printer? it's pretty hard to find now since canon brought out the 4500 version. would that printer do, instead of the older version?

btw, what's the max size i can print with the 4300/4500?

lesliechua

A4 size.

I have this and its not bad, although this is my first "photo printer", so i do not have anything to compare with.

I think canon still has this for 0% Its Php 9450 somewhere there
