Both of the lenses perform almost the same. The Sigma (no OS) is cheaper though.

The Tamrons I've used tends to be noisier while autofocusing.

Lens tests at PopPhoto:

http://www.popphoto.com/cameralenses/4603/lens-test-sigma-18-200mm-f35-63-dc-os-af.html

There's also a Tamron 18-270 coming out soon.

If you plan to buy at JT Photo, bring your camera body and have the lens calibrated for front/back focusing while you're there. Jerome (tech guy) is usually only there 4pm onwards. But better call first just in case.

With that kind of focal length, go for the Sigma with the optical stabilizer. Or wait for the Tamron 18-270 VC. Advantage for going with the Sigma would be the availability of a local service center in case your unit needs repairs, etc.

Sorry guys but I'm here in Saudi Arabia right now. And I'm after for the QUALITY of the lens and not for the local repair shop.

That's why i want to know which is the best among the two lenses.

Neither has the clear advantage over QC. Both are so-so as lenses go. It's just how high zoom lenses are built. Good at the short end but gets softer as you go farther. Not to mention the distortion.

Sigma offer quiet AF and OS, Tamron offers more range. Depends on which one is more important.

the more important is the quality of the image that lenses can produce. let say tamron 18-200 vs sigma 18-200. which is better in terms of quality?

Sorry. I meant image quality (IQ) not QC.

I can only speak of a sigma 18-200os. I own one. It's a very convenient all-around lens. I use it while travelling, when I get too lazy to change lens. Outdoor shooting....it's IQ is very much acceptable. Under low light, I dont even want to use the lens.

Bottom line, for the price and the FL coverage, it's good stuff. But if you're going after IQ, fast AF, etc. you might want to check other lenses.

My 2 cents.

Hi citizens of photog world! I'm a newbie in photography I need a little help here in choosing good lenses. I want to buy new lens for my Canon 500D. Then, I saw this Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS. Any reviews about this Sigma lens? I am planning to buy this Sigma lens because it fits on my cam and also it fits on my budget. :)

Here (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0609/06093013sigma18-200dcos.asp) is a review for the 18-200 DC OS
and here (http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/sigma_18-200_3p5-6p3_os_n15/) is for the 18-200 DC OS/ HSM i believe the official distributor of sigma lenses is still on sale for the HSM version. HTH
