View Full Version : Help! I have dust in my lcd viewing screen!
Franz A.D. Morales 07-16-2007, 08:49 AM I noticed yesterday, photographing under the sun, that there was dust inside the viewing screen of my K100D! How do I clean this? Or should I have it cleaned at Sanly's? There's no effect naman with the performance, it's irritating lang and I guess I'm paranoid that sooner or later the dust might get in much deeper! :Scared:
Norman U. Timonera 07-16-2007, 08:52 AM Franz,
Start with the rocket blower first. Inital couple of bursts. Do not attempt to wipe it off since sand is abrasive to the mirror and screen. If you have the small vacumm it should be good too.
Don't lock up the mirror unless you have done it before.

Norman, the dust is in between the viewing screen and the plastic covering... :( When viewing a shot, it hard to see, but when it is blank, there's significant dust build up on the lower right... below the protective plastic covering and above the LCD screen itself...

Do you mean the viewfinder's focusing screen, or the lcd screen at the back of the dslr? You must mean the focusing screen cause I doubt it that dust enters the lcd screen. If its the focusing screen, you can either let it be, since it really doesn't have any effect on the photos, but if it is really annoying, then you can very carefully take out the focusing screen and clean it with a pecpad. If the manual doesn't provide instructions, you can check out the internet on ways of removing the focusing screen. Hope this helps.
Franz A.D. Morales 07-16-2007, 09:11 AM The lcd screen at the back of the dslr... I doubted that dust can get into it as well, but they did:(

If your dslr is still under warranty, bring it to pentax na lang and have them clean it.
Franz A.D. Morales 07-16-2007, 09:34 AM @vince: It's still under warranty naman, I guess that's what I'll be doing na nga... I just wanted to find out if there are alternative ways to address this problem since as much as possible, I don't want to be away from my camera for extended periods of time:) ah well... thanks!
Norman U. Timonera 07-16-2007, 10:07 AM Hmmm, you mean you can't take off the cover in between the LCD and the plastic covering??? IF the sand got into it, where is the entry point? Sorry not familiar with Pentax.
Franz A.D. Morales 07-16-2007, 10:18 AM Can't take off the cover... I have no idea where the dust came in too... hay...

Sir Franz, is it dust or a hot/dead pixel? My DSLR LCD has a hot pixel (white) near the bottom right hand corner. I've learned to ignore it (after a very long and bad experience with the Canon tech guys). Selective blindness, ika nga. A dead pixel will appear black, like dust.
Franz A.D. Morales 07-16-2007, 10:27 AM It's whitish and looks like dust, actually they look more like silver fibers... and it's not just one, there are lots! They don't look like hot pixels nor dead pixels either...

Dalhin mo na sa Sanly. Ibang klase na yan.
willy_palacios 07-16-2007, 10:41 AM "If it aint Broke Dont' Fix" one guy scratch his VF trying to get rid of a lint :D
WE are sometimes annoyed by those little things that happens to our cam But doesn't actually affect the picture output. Unless you really try to look for it you can't really see it when taking pictures.....
but because we are humans, there's always something there to annoy us :D
Franz A.D. Morales 07-16-2007, 10:46 AM True, it doesn't affect picture quality... but, with the dust being silver fiber-like, it might be something worse. maybe some electronic thingamajig inside unraveling or something... Better safe than sorry. Besides, sayang warranty :)
bongmanayon 07-16-2007, 11:22 AM It's not exactly clear where the dust is but tama si Willie, if it ain't broke don't fix it. I have what looks like hair and dust specks whenever I look through the viewfinder but I can live with it because it does not affect the picture. Ipunin ko na lang for a one time fix later when there are more compelling reasons for my camera to undergo CLA.

might be fungi
Franz A.D. Morales 07-16-2007, 06:12 PM @victor: it doesn't look like fungi, very unlike the fungi in my lens... seems like dust from the sides of the LCD... looks metallic...
