What's the best photoshop CS2 book available locally?

local availability seems to be a problem for these books. there's also no "best" single book though.

scott kelby's photoshop cs2 for photographers is pretty much what i have seen people read. martin evening's book also comes in mind as well.

I agree scott kelby gives you a lot of tips...for digital photography you could try reading Adobe Photoshop Cs2 for Photographers by Martin Evening...those books are available at bibliarch or at fully booked...if you want more tips and tricks try downloading the podcasts by the Photoshop guys...hope this helps.

@nino
got my 2nd and 3rd issues of DPP...liked it...thanks for the follow up...

a vote also for scott kelby's books. But I'm not sure you could easily get it from the bookstores. I had to pre-order the book from Powerbooks and wait for a few weeks before I could read it.

Cheers!

Thanks for your help, guys!

I'll try to visit Powerbooks and Fully Booked this weekend and hope to see these titles there.
If not, probably do what Roy did, pre-ordered from them.:)

Thanks again.

i already went to fully booked (powerplant and greenhills) just yesterday, they don't have the scott kelby book in stock in any of their branches... neither do they have the photoshop cs2 and digital photography for dummies... i tried powerbooks and national bookstore, no luck... i ordered from amazon.com and i expect them to arrive this week...

Unfortunately the selection of photoshop books is pretty weak in this country. Your best chance to get anything decent would be at Fully Booked in Rockwell. This store has the best photography section in the country. Second best would be Powerbooks in Greenbelt with another solid photography section.

As for a good title, Nino mentioned it. Martin Evening's book (was it CS2 for Photographers?) is one of your best choices since it covers everything you want to know about PS for photography. You won't find it here though. Buy it in Amazon and just bite the bullet with freight and taxes. Its well worth it.

Hi Jun,

As a Photographer one of the skills you have to develop is to be resourceful and do research. There are many good books available locally and it is imported and a lot cheaper to buy here since you don't have to pay the 6% sales tax and the cost of freight & shipment. The exchange rate to the dollar has also gone down to the Php 51.44 level. Let me suggest to you the following books as reference materials available at Data Blitz Park Square, SM Megamall and Fully Booked:

1. Adobe Photoshop CS2 Classroom in a Book with DVD ROM from Adobe Press
Php 1,395.00 - ISBN-0-321-19735-X

2. Photoshop for Wedding Photographers by: Scott Kelby (with DVD ROM)
Php 2,475.00 - ISBN-0-321-35673-X

There are other books available. What type of Photography are you more interested in? Just let me know and I'll give you other titles and references.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for posting several PS reference books.

Well, to start, I'm just a hobbyist. I've been interested with digital photography for the reason that it is the best tool (IMO) to capture the precious moments of our lives (Family events, kids school activities, special events)... so for the type of photography, I prefer portraiture, macro-photography (flowers, insects) and sometimes, sports (a tennis addict). I'm also fascinated with night photography.

Thanks again.

Well I guess there's some confusion here... Man, I'm NOT selling PIRATED? stuff so I cannot understand why my post was DELETED not edited  . I detest the idea that my post suggested such! Well it's not like that! All the Ebooks I have I bought on-line, mind you. I was merely trying to help the author of this thread. If that breaks the rules then my apologies, however I believe I didn't! I was even careful to say just to PM me instead so that the thread resources are not wasted...

This kind of accusation, may it be: direct, indirect or implied can be misconstrued... And this affects my credibility on-line... You have offended me! Now what do you say?

To the mods, I know earl personally and to my mind he is not selling any software pirated or not. He can afford expensive equipment as what he has now and is a professional graphic designer for website development. I would have edited the other post if you ask me.

I haven't been up to speed on this but just read Earl's post. He is correct and our moderator made a judgement error in deleting it. Nino is just doing his job and there was no malice intended.

Earl if you read this, please accept our apology. Also, please PM me your address (hopefully you are in town and not in Kyoto) so that we can send you a complimentary copy of DPP Mag Issue 03 if you have not yet purchased one.

And we hope you stay on board cause your contributions here are valuable.

I'll be restoring your post.

Yup, Scott Kelby's Photoshop books are worth it. I'm in the U.S. right now and I got myself a copy. Indeed, as his introduction would say, he chose to show the readers how to "do it" rather than explaining every dialog box in Photoshop.

Still in the first few chapters, good read indeed. :)

I got the Total training for PS CS2 video. I found it very informative and it had sections where you get to practice on your PC what they were teaching with sample photos for you to use. It's a 4 dvd set that I ordered online.

Though not a book but a video training course, the Lynda course: Enhancing Digital Photography with Adobe Photoshop is very good material especially the way to work non-destructive editing/enhancement on photos.
