Brown Pelican Portrait Dowitcher By The Shore Cormoran In-flight Romy Ocon 08-15-2006, 09:12 PM Very nice captures, Reyno. The colors and micro-contrast on the second pic are outstanding! Just curious, was the water surface in the second pic sloping in real life? It looks unconventional, but I find the composition pleasing in an out-of-the-box way...:) Romy Reyno Rosete 08-15-2006, 09:56 PM Thanks Romy for taking the time to view and comment on my post. Yes, the Dowitcher is just at the ebb line. I posted this shot at POTN for ID as I was not sure if this is a Dowitcher or a Sandpiper and the concensus is a Dowitcher although some are inclined that the bird is a Sandpiper. I've looked around and it's in the borderline between the two, flipped a coin and Dowitcher came out a winner. What do you think? If it's otherwise, I'll change the ID as I don't wanna be passing wrong info around. Thanks again. tj_parpan 08-15-2006, 11:39 PM Great captures Reyno! I haven't had a chance to go birding in a bit, but hopefully will get a chance this weekend. Yes, the details and copmosition of the 2nd pic are wonderful. Reyno Rosete 08-16-2006, 01:03 AM Thanks, I appreciate your comments TJ. I'm back at home base again after a couple of weeks on the road. Look forward to your next post. Gil Tuzon 08-16-2006, 01:57 AM Enjoyable shots. Where are you located? My birding scene is just limited in a few places here in the Bay Area (silicon valley). cheers, gil Reyno Rosete 08-16-2006, 03:06 AM Thanks Gil. Currently, I'm based in Orlando and wildlife around here is just amazing compared to the Bay Area. But that place by the Dumbarton Bridge is an excellent birding place during the migratory season and so are the Central Valley wetlands. Hi Reyno, I'm not very familiar with North American birds, but if I've to make a guess, my first choice would be Short-billed Dowitcher (Limnodromus griseus), and a far second would be Long-billed Dowitcher (Limnodromus scolopaceus). BTW, a good help in ID'ing birds is the http://www.birdforum.net/ , the net's largest community dedicated to wild birds. I'm a member there (free to join) and our Steve Pryor is a mod there. Romy tina mallari 08-16-2006, 10:29 AM Very nice shots Reyno !!! You are lucky to be living in an area with such a diverse variety of birds. The birds are lucky to have you photographing them naman din because you can show others just how beautiful and marvelous these creatures are.
