Birding is quite slow lately, as the typhoons and storms make a bee-line at the Pacific to hit our islands one after the other....:(

Here's sharing a couple of fliers taken when the sun ruled the skies, before the dark clouds took over.

1. Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybridus) from Manila Bay, 1DM2 + 400 5.6L, f/7.1, 1/1600 sec, ISO 320, manual exposure, hand held:

2. Dragonfly in flight (Masinloc, Zambales), 20D + 400 5.6L, f/8, 1/640 sec, ISO 400, Av-priority, hand held

Very nice Romy. It's so hard to take photos of birds in flight na nga and yet your captures are wonderfully crisp with so much detail in them.

It was a blast going to Makiling with Cel and Abby !!! Super ingayyyyy as in natakot all the birds. It was my first trip to makiling na very few birds BUT we saw 5 Philippine falconets that weren't scared of people at all as in even if the 3 ladies were shouting out my name, like there was no tomorrow, to identify the bird and take pictures of it ... hindi lumilupad the falconet.

We also met a very nice Japanese woman birder who had a digiscope, binoculars and a very thick red hardbound book on Philippine birds (way so much bigger than the kennedy guide). She was so ecstatic because she saw 2 philippine endemics on her first birdwatching trip to makiling. Desmond Allen introduced her to birding while he was in Japan daw.

Tina, congrats on the beautiful capture of the not-so-common Yellow-wattled Bulbul, another Philippine endemic! Can't wait to see your other Makiling pics.

Taking in-flight captures is hard enough, let alone capturing it sharp and detailed, you make it look like a piece of cake to take these shots. Excellent captures Romy. Dragon fly??? hehehehe...

Thanks, Reyno.... technology has made it easier to get these shots, unimagineable during the manual focus, film days when the magazine is limited to about 36 shots.

Now, we can spray and pray at 8.5 fps, 18-20 shots RAW buffer (over 40 if jpegs), using an AF system that can keep up with the fastest flying bird in the planet. At the end of the day, one can delete the discards at no cost (unlike film), except for a bit of wear and tear on the mechanicals of the DSLR, and battery charging time....
