@ glenn

i own a sigma 105 macro EX. i primarily use it for studio work and food/product shots.
how does it perform? no doubt the lens is sharp (even at wide open). it has good color and contrast. built like a tank (metal.. metal.. metal). value for money - definitely! the nikkor version is expensive (bnew). the only downside for me on the sigma is the noise when its focusing (its not AFS). Aside from that - the glass ROCKS!!!:)

will this lens perform well on indoor bar concerts? http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1030&message=19563676

Thanks Levi, appreciate it!, since the lens is f2.8, how does it perform in indoor situations with ambient light? Is hand-holding it difficult since you need to get to 1/100 at least?

im very comfortble using this lens. i use available light on all of my food shots (handheld). and yes, ideally you should have a shutter speed of at least 1/100. but ive gotten away with 1/40 or 1/60:) .

i believe the 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4 is more versatile for the photography disipline you're into. and you rarely would use the 1:1 macro for concerts anyway :)

I was actually looking at the nikkor 85mm1.8 to compliment my 50mm, but I tested my 55-200mm in this situations and 85mm seem to be quite short when I can't stay close enough to the band. if I go with the Sigma 105f2.8, I'll get a macro as well.

if you want a fast glass with additional length.. the 80-200 or 70-200 f/2.8 migh be the answer!:) it too is very sharp wide open plus gives you flexibility of zoom.

:D Unfortunately I cannot afford that glass. the 105mm Macro will serve me 2 ways - Macro (of course) and Lowlight telephoto. Any issues with infinity focus with this lens?

Like with most macro lenses, you may have slow focusing issues with it.

I am selling my 105mm macro lens.
I used it for butterfly photography with my F80 for a short while.
It is a good lens. I bought it from WorldAire.

I switched to Panasonic Lumix p/s FZ30 and then now I have just gotten
a Canon 20D so I will not have any use for it anymore. If you are interested, please email me at butterflywatcher99@yahoo.com

I now have this lens. 2nd-hand and pretty beat-up body but optics are still great... test shots below...

Where did you get this lens? Locally? How much?

Thanks,

Edwin

Yup... love this lens...

On another note, the lens almost knocked over a lady while it was focusing (since an inner barrel extends out for greater magnification). :KO:

P.S. Screw those people who are still using flash inside the Manila Ocean Park despite verbal & written notifications.
