View Full Version : Your other Olympus supplier?
JonDexterTan 08-07-2006, 08:25 AM Hi guys! Besides Axis Global, where do you get your Olympus stuff?
Most of my Olympus gear are from ebay, mainly Cameta :D and from friends who gets it from HK.
Dex
Tok Paler 08-07-2006, 03:04 PM B & H Photo Video since it's the only one i know that ships internationally. Adorama doesn't ship here to the Phils despite their international shipping service... Not really sure why though (racism perhaps? hehehe)
Are the prices cheaper in HK plus taxes?
Francis Tuason 08-07-2006, 03:27 PM Hi guys... do you know where i can buy a generic blm-1 for my e-500?
JonDexterTan 08-07-2006, 03:59 PM @Tok -- no, it's cheaper in the US even with shipping. I once had quotes from sellers who get their stuff from HK, the 14-54mm f2.8-3.5 averaged at 28K while it's only 26K+ on Axis Global's list price. My copy would be arriving by the end of this week or early next week (EMS is almost as fast as the couriers) from Cameta for only US$467.00 or about less than 25K. :D just don't ask me how much I got my E-1 brand new from Cameta *hint* :)
@Francis -- I got one from HK for 1.2K, and believe you me, one of our local mall's (NCCC) hardware store sells generic batteries for canons, nikons and even the BLM-1 for 1.2K dang! :D I asked before at Henry's, a per order basis at 3K.
terrycabilogan 08-07-2006, 04:10 PM ei Tuason na visit mo na ba yung office/shop ng olympus in cubao?! am here in jeddah m also using olympus but E-10 and m trying to search accessories din

JonDexterTan 08-07-2006, 04:24 PM hi batchie! why don't you join us in the Pinoy Olympus Users Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pinoy-olympus-e-series-users/?yguid=93014354) :D Alex and Mark of Axis Global are active members there and you can ask for availability of accessories or any questions to the group and get answers directly from those to gentlemen. but my best bet for E-10 accessories would still be eBay :)
and let me know if you're coming over ;)

Norman_P._Aquino 08-07-2006, 06:08 PM Hi guys... do you know where i can buy a generic blm-1 for my e-500?
You can find them along Hidalgo. I don't remember the name of the store, but it's the camera shop before Watson. I bought mine (PS-BLM1) for P1,050, with a one-year warranty. After six months, it broke. They replaced it.
Regards,
Norman
Norman_P._Aquino 08-07-2006, 06:09 PM Dexter and Tok,
Don't you guys get charged with excessive duties and VAT for your purchases?
JonDexterTan 08-07-2006, 07:00 PM Norman, I paid the customs 800 petot for the E-1 (May). I remember paying only 35 on both the 24-120mm VR (March) and E-300 (Feb) kit. My friend paid 2K for an E-500 w/ 2 kit lens. I noticed that they would really check on your package only if its declared at 500usd or more. I'll let you know how much customs will charge me for the coming 14-54mm. Most of the other stuff I get i only pay 35, like the OM lenses, extension tubes, etc.
Theres an 11-22mm f2.8-3.5 in Cameta you know :Dum:
Norman_P._Aquino 08-07-2006, 07:22 PM Dexter, $669? Still expensive, don't you think? I have money to burn now for an 11-22, but I'm prediposed to save more for the 7-14. With the local price of the 7-14, you could already go on vacation in Bangkok and buy the lens there! :O
I'm sure you'll love your 14-54. Have fun with it.
JonDexterTan 08-07-2006, 07:27 PM Thanks Norman! was going to get the 50mm f2.0 macro coz the reason I took so long at getting the 14-54mm is that i was happy with the 14-45mm :D but i decided to get the 14-54mm instead coz it can shoot up close to 5cm (i heard) almost as near as the 50mm. :D
yeah, still is. that 7-14 is on my dream list! yeah if you have plans for the 7-14, skip the 11-22. :D
Dex
Norman_P._Aquino 08-07-2006, 07:34 PM I hope you get a sharp 14-54. =B)
I'm evil to even consider the 7-14 given my measly take-home pay, but I would like to think I'm thinking long term...
JonDexterTan 08-07-2006, 07:42 PM oooh i read your firware-issue with the 14-54mm in dpreview :D i would certainly like an explaination on the firmware re-update if ever i got a soft 14-54 :) thanks in advance! haha!
randykanapi 08-07-2006, 09:05 PM axis global has excellent service , worth looking at..
they also are a distributor for epson
Tok Paler 08-07-2006, 10:26 PM Dex: 800 for the customs?! no wonder you get it cheaper!
Norman: Last thing i ordered from B & H was the FL-36 and the Sto-Fen Omnibounce, paid 1G+ for D&T. 50mm macro was shipped by my relative in MA. i think they paid $100 for the shipping plus D&T na siguro coz i wasn't informed that i would be paying for anything, just woke up one morning with the package waiting for me in the living room, much like how santa leaves gifts under the christmas tree! =) Lol =b
They even had specials on Lens + BLM-1 at $450+ for both, naturally, i bought it! =b
Weeee!!! 7-14mm! sounds exciting! =b The 14-54mm can shoot closer than the 50mm macro though i'm not sure if it works on all focal lengths, does it?.
Norman_P._Aquino 08-07-2006, 10:44 PM Dexter, It will be my pleasure. =B)
Tok, You are evil. =B) Somebody might come home from the US in October. Barring unforeseen occurrences, I might go ahead with the 7-14 purchase if I don't get a good deal from here. But I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.
Guys, you don't worry about the time when your gear stops working and you won't have local warranty?
Regards,
Norman
Tok Paler 08-07-2006, 10:46 PM I'll be at Hidalgo to fetch the EOS 630 i had reconditioned... as far as ive heard, theyre clearing out all the Oly accessories and cameras. How true is this?
Could work to my advantage though, gonna hunt for Zuiko OM lenses =b
terrycabilogan 08-07-2006, 10:49 PM hi jon sure ill join the group! thanks for the info...

Tok Paler 08-07-2006, 10:50 PM Norman: Good luck with your acquisition! =) Share photos na lang! Hehehehehe! =) Parang pang palubag luob! HAHAHAHA!!! =) LMAO! =)
Dex: How's Cameta's shipping by the way?
JonDexterTan 08-08-2006, 05:35 AM Tok. Cameta's shipping cost is ok, comparable to B&H if not a little cheaper. They ship through EMS and it's here in Davap in 5 days. Could be less if in Manila. :D
Francis Tuason 08-08-2006, 05:05 PM @Dex - thanks dex, i'l look muna sa hidalgo if i can find a a generic blm-1.
--- So, that's why all your OM's are with Randy... you have a new toy to finance... hehe.
If i don't find one here... can you do a me favor and buy me a blm-1 there? if it's not too much. :)
@batchie - hi!, im looking for a generic battery, axis global only sells expensive original batteries. :) if u wana get in touch with the axis peeps, just join the oly users group.
@Norman - Thanks for the info man... Nakakatamad lang nga pumunta sa hidalgo, but i'll try one of these days...
JonDexterTan 08-08-2006, 05:28 PM @Francis -- hahahaha! yeah, miss the nifty50 and extenders... but, hello 2.8 zoom! and sure, let me know if you can't find one there :D
@Norman -- i wonder why nobody wants to take me to quiapo whenever i go up north. hmmm. isn't it a wonderful place, hidalgo st? lotsa camera stores?
Norman_P._Aquino 08-08-2006, 07:00 PM @Norman -- i wonder why nobody wants to take me to quiapo whenever i go up north. hmmm. isn't it a wonderful place, hidalgo st? lotsa camera stores?
Maybe you look like a filthy rich tourist who will likely get mugged by thieves? =B)
Anyway, not so many cameras you'll be interested in, but a number of tripods, useless filters (I think they are all either UV or Skylight), camera straps, bags, relatively cheaper memory cards, Canon and Nikon accessories, daing na pusit, dilis, cornick in packs, etc. =B)
Regards,
Norman
JonDexterTan 08-08-2006, 11:10 PM hahaha! tourist lang, hindi rich! haha! speaking of Filters, I had a bad expereince with eBay once -- just once. I ordered for a 67mm to 72mm step up ring, and what arrived was a 62mm to 67mm SU ring, still here and I don't know where to use it. anyways, any chance there's one of thise 67-72mm in hidalgo? coz the only thing left from my nikon gear is my hoya hmc cpl filter in 72mm (for my old VR). loved it and wanted to use it sana.
Tok Paler 08-09-2006, 03:20 AM Dex: Probably the same, but i'll keep my fingers crossed nonetheless =b
Norman: Don't forget the bland Bico topped with diabetic amounts of brown sugar! =) hehehe =b are they still selling those? regarding the int'l warranty? all i'm worried about is if my shutter dies on me. Though now that you've mentioned it... Hmmmm.... I'm sure with proper care, your gear might last long than its expected life, hopefully at least =b
Francis: Be sure to give Hidalgo a try! =) Though i don't generally condone using generic batteries (i'm afraid it will melt inside my cam, call me paranoid! =b) i'm sure you'll find something of use at Hidalgo, be it an advise from a fellow photographer or just some food craving you've been having for months =b Though generally, not a place to visit if you're one of those impulsive-buyer-type-person =b i ended buying a 150x Ridata CF when all i needed was a UV filter for my lens and a 52-55mm step up ring =b PM if you're going there, need to pick up some stuff din =)
JonDexterTan 08-09-2006, 05:32 AM oh francis, I forgot to mention, my generic BLM-1 lasts a tad bit shorter than my originals, maybe because it's a couple of hundred mah less. :D by any chance you can ask about a 67 to 72mm step up ring in hidalgo?
Francis Tuason 08-09-2006, 09:47 PM Tok = thanks for the advice... i will try to fit in hidalgo in my schedule soon... cge, i'l pm u if i decide to go na... or maybe you can tell me if you decide to go... so i can drag myself out of this chair... hehe...
Dex = sure thing dex, i'll inform u if i would go na, so i can get ur number so i can text you if im there so i could purchase ur step up ring if u give go signal.
JonDexterTan 08-09-2006, 10:13 PM Thanks Francis! :)

ryan_flores 09-04-2006, 11:25 AM hello sirs,
i'm a newbie in photography so to speak, and i'm very interested in the e-500.
i'd just like to ask if the e-500 is available in hidalgo (i took a quick look at mayer and saw only nikons and canons). i tried calling axis global and they told me they only service olympus and does not sell it.
thanks in advance for your help!
John Neil Sangalang 09-04-2006, 12:29 PM Im based here in Singapore and Oly accesssories are much cheaper here compared to the philippines, if you want you can email me what oly accessories u want and I'll try to find it here for you.

Yes Hidalgo shops sell olympus also... and you can get them cheaper there too. Im not sure of the shops that carry them... With regards to axis global, they distribute olympus to the retailers... then the retailers sell to us end users.... so you can find e-500 in most of the computer, electronics, and photo shops. The BPI pre-christmas installment madness in glorietta is on going right now... if you have a bpi credit card, you might want to consider paying 12 months with zero interest.

Thanks Elvin! Yes I'm considering also singapore as my option and i've heard that they're giving away some freebies like 2gb CF card, drybox, extra battery, camera bag, etc. Plus if you buy in a Global Refund accredited store you can avail of the tax free shopping. Is that right?
I'm scheduled to travel to Kuala Lumpur on October and Singapore by Nov. Any idea on Kuala Lumpur suppliers?

Does Axis Global accepts 1-Year Olympus Worldwide Limited Warranty if i buy my camera abroad?
Francis Tuason 09-08-2006, 02:03 PM Jul,
I'm sorry to say, they do not accept worldwide warranty. They only honor the Oly gear that has been bought locally and was distributed by them.

Meron bang Sigma 55-200mm lens dyan? Hirap kasi maghanap dito sa pinas eh. If ever meron, how much? have you tried looking at clubsnap?
Thanks dude!
Norman_P._Aquino 09-19-2006, 07:11 PM Jul,
You don't want the 40-150? I heard the 55-200 looks terrible at above 150mm.

Is this me? hahahaha yup got it at $250 SGD but its not 2nd hand in a sense na hindi pa sya nagamit nung mayari. The owner of my sigma is a camera supplier here in SG and an avid Oly user....
Hmm so far I tried using it on more than 150mm and its still managable its actually my *not so big mama* lens together with the TCON 1.7, that's giving me a 680mm telephoto

Sample naman dyan =b
i'm also using the 55-200mm.. and yeah.. 200mm may not be as sharp but if you need the 200mm focal length on a budget, then i suggest you get that. though the ZD 40-150mm and the ZD 18-180mm the better options =)
unless you can get the ZD 50-200mm =b
Keith_Aguilera 09-20-2006, 12:17 AM The Sigma 55-200mm cost 5400NT (Php 8640) here in Taiwan. Still looking for a carry around lens because I don't like switching from my 17.5-45mm to 40-150mm lens. The ZD 18-180mm is still pricey for my budget but would the Sigma 18-125mm be a good option. All the stores say that Olympus comes with a global warranty but from the forum it says that its not recognized in Pinas (not so global after all). Does Sigma have a warranty back home?
By the way I bought my E-500 from Hidalgo a few months back before leaving for Taiwan and I'm just new in photography.

Well i havent really tried to "use" this combination, but I had my chance to try it on my recent trip to Phuket. You can check the bird photo in my pic http://zildjohn18.multiply.com/photos/album/40 also some of the zoom shots.
Will try this weekend and post more samples for this kind of setup.
