I have not had the chance to view Richard Larrios' prints over at OWG so maybe its time for me to do my "phantom" visit there. However, I have heard that Larrios' prints looked great. Something different. Question I want to know relates to the thread I posted around two weeks ago about Gallery and Exhibit prints. I'm curious to find out if his show went well. Did the Gallery do a good job selling Larrios? Are there buyers out there who supported his work?

This must be a sensitive subject since no one has responded. I have not seen Larrios' show and would love to hear how it did? Did Larrios have a successful show or was it a bust? Do Filipinos appreciate good photography as the international community?

Gab, why don't you get it from the source itself, from Mr Larrios/OWG I mean. Maybe the reason why no one here chimed in to your query was that nobody knows how many pix were sold. I heard the event pushed through and that would be a succes already.

Gabriel,
My invitation for you to have coffee still stands. FYI the Librodo show was ended already, up to this day, OWG still present his show "in private" to the network of buyers, two days ago we sold another one. Now we are wrapping up another one that got sold again. Last February, we represent a B&W photographer and we have to "market and package" him before his scheduled show, unlike Librodo, he doesn't have any sales during his entire show duration. It is a gallery policy that the artists/photographers can't just pull out his/her works ( all) right after his exhibit sched, we require at least 6 months hold over period to continue selling it. He didn't abide with the gallery policy, instead he pulled out all his works because another gallery is scheduling him for another show. Just recently in one of OWG presentation, we presented our photo catalog in one of the expat ambassador who wanted to have his house furnished. (My staff wasn't able to take out some photos from the old catalog) The ambassador noticed his great images and ordering 8 pieces from his 30 x 24 b&w @ 30T each, and that's cool 240T. To cut the story short we recommended another artist because we dropped the photographer from our list. I must say selling fine art photograph piece must be done with concerted effort by both the artist and the gallery. Artist/Photographer must follow some gallery rules in order to continue and get positive sales result. We, gallery owners have "associations" and friendly relationship, we compare notes on who are the artists/photographers we can "share" just in case buyers are looking for that particular artist. We also noted those galleries who doesn't follow ethics through under pricing and artist's pirating. Gallery owners may not give to you this inside info about sales, that's why like what Caloy mentioned, you really have to approach me (personally) or Larrios for you to get the clear picture.:)

Hi Ross,

Thanks for your post. I'm glad to see that there is at least a semblance of a market here that appreciates good photography and is willing to pay for it. So far it looks like foreigners but maybe one day Filipino collectors of art will one day too buy photography. I hope Larrios has a successful run with you. I will one day take up your offer for coffee.
