when - saturday, june 9, 3pm (rain or shine. there's sufficient shelter around the campus to shoot and get cover from the rain)
where - up diliman, near the oblation

when you see people dressed up like anime figures or like its holloween in japan, that's gonna be us :Grin:

most likely yeah... i'm telling them that its an open theme event ie dress up or wear what you want. would anyone like to make a request on a theme? (canon vs nikon? :D) im also gathering up the cosplayers on their site.

Just took some shots of UP diliman last week all by myself ...wala namang guard na sumisita, besides you can roam around the campus freely :) Hmmm interesting itong Cosplay, hope i can go there and take some photos..:)

i went to bahay ng alumni last year for UP's anime org,, i think almost half the peole there have cameras ( both point and shoot and dslrs ). is this an anime convention paul?

no convention. just a chance to shoot... heck an eb na rin if you'd like to put it that way. its very informal, just come and shoot.

i just got off the phone. i made a call to UP and for the permit, if they approve of it in a day or 2 once i send it, they'll charge by the hour (P1600, and the rate can up up according to them depending upon the purpose of the shoot) i remember shooting a couple for a wedding there earlier this year with jong ong's imagination. we were not charged or bothered by the guards. the people at the social affairs office said that UP is undergoing a renovation and some buildings and landmarks are sensitive to being photographed (specially the oblation). i noted that people/students shoot there freely on weekends and as one poster on this thread said Just took some shots of UP diliman last week all by myself ...wala namang guard na sumisita, besides you can roam around the campus freely :) Hmmm interesting itong Cosplay, hope i can go there and take some photos..:) he was able to shoot there freely

I reckon the person on the other line is BSing you. Maybe when it's for commercial purposes then they charge fees. Better not to tell them really, there is really no problem shooting in UP. If some smart aleck insists there is a fee, then invoke academic freedom etc (better when you're shooting with some UP pips too.)

commercial shoot? i don't think so. i wanted to shoot on a weekend. i did not plan to charge or make any profit from this shoot. i just wanted to shoot and since i might be shooting 2-5 or more people, decided that other photogs might wanna shoot as well- those who have day jobs and can only shoot on weekends. i wanted to share, that's it. the cosplayers would have surely benefited from a different photog who has a different sytem, lens, pov, shooting style (gets?)

You don't have to set a limit to the number of shooters (UPD is 493 hectares:Grin:). To be safe then maybe give her an indicative number say 30... So the shoot will only be in the vicinity of Quezon Hall (Admin Bldg)?

I don't know if there's a limit as to the number of photogs bro...you might as well call to be sure...as what i've said there is really no problem shooting in UP especially on weekends, moreso if there are events like the lantern parade...

i just called again, i asked for the details that i have to put in the letter. they asked for the usuals- time, place, number of shooters. and i indicated that there would be no studio vans or big lights. we were just gonna be there to shoot. they insist on the letter and keep on saying that (translated in english) 'she can permit you granted you give all the details and PAY THE FEE.'

so technically we are not asking for permission to shoot, we are renting the place.

has anyone ever tried to get a permit there? i talked to a cosplayer and she said that they've been shooting there (in a group) for free.

i just wanted a carefree shoot... i'm not going to profit from this so why should i even pay a public place (unless i pay for entrance lang) for a permit? if we don't need a permit to shoot there, then we'll shoot there.

well, we can meet somewhere first then go in in different entrances and probably meet up in the park at a given time. in that way we'll lessen the risk of being caught as a big group and be asked for a permit. yahahaha... guerilla tactics!

i remember someone 2-3 years ago doing a prenup there. it was just the photog (and his wife as the assistant) and the couple.

UP has its share of abandoned buildings...I guess to be inconspicuous the shoot better be in places except Quezon Hall...Do an ocular first around the campus and you'll find interesting spots fit for photoshoots. HTH

WHAT : A photoshoot in the U.P. Diliman campus. This is a non-profit photoshoot and I am pooling weekend photographers, hobbyists(like myself) and cosplayers, for this event.

WHEN : Saturday, the 9th of June, 2007. We plan to shoot from 3-7pm.

WHO(will come) : I am expecting around 30 photographers and 30 models(cosplayers: thsoe who follow Japanese fashion and dress themselves in Japanese or anime clothing.)

WHERE : We would like to shoot in an area encompassed behind the Oblation, the Roxas, Fernandez, and Osmena avenues. (map provided)

Others have freely walked into the campus for various reasons for a photoshoot, have shot anywhere and everywhere, and have never been disturbed. Due to the number of people who I expect to come, We are taking extra steps and asking for your permission to minimize any possible misunderstanding. We have no intent on rudely trespassing and disturbing the peace. All we ask for is to be able to use your grounds, like others have, and take pictures of our subjects.

alodia is one of the best cosplayers. she really takes this fashion to her own level. she never looks like someone who's been rushed or her costume was made just the night before. she was at the last big event at the mall of asia... sadly she's also one of the more difficult cosplayers to get and see.

I know the feeling... I also have some pics still in my CF of Japanese cosplayers when I was in the Kyoto movie studio. They were having some mini-convention of some sort. :D hehehehehehe... Anyway, I saw most of them playing characters from Naruto. I'll try to share some pics as well when my sched. clears up a bit.

any updates on the cosplay EB?

sayang, 'di ako makakapunta, trip ko pa naman mga cosplayers.. ganda pa naman ng location na yan.

Coz I'm a cosplayer myself, despite the few costumes I've made since I'm not as friggin rich as Alodia, and I was wondering why I haven't heard much about this event. Hmm...

Also, there will be LOTS of cosplayers on the next TOYCON, June 16-17 SM Megamall Trade Halls. Befriend them and they'll let you shoot. ^_^

it looks like that we'll be in a studio in makati for the eb/shoot on saturday. i will post the final details by lunchtime later and we'll also have to chip in for the rent of the studio(i'm estimating about 100pesos per photog/cosplayer). i wanted to do the shoot outdoors but with the difficulty in finding a venue that won't require a permit, a studio seems to be the safest choice. please pm me if you have changed your mind are opting not to come so that i will have an estimate head count. there are 24 people in the list, i understand if you will be disheartened due to the venue but i hope that you will still come.

i chose a studio because of the difficutly in getting a permit, the weather (it might rain), and going guerilla if you have models and there 30 photogs in one place wouldn't sound practical to me.

How about Luneta? Do you need permit there?

i've had a number ot people say that you can shoot freely un UP or elsewhere... just to be safe against the weather, guards, or anything else, let's shoot in the studio na lang. its a controlled environment. and no need for a permit. i'd still love to shoot outdoors but hate to be pestered by a guard. an outdoors shoot will require more planning... maybe in the future :P

i'd really want to shoot in up or any other outdoor venue. UP was charging high for a permit from 3-7pm. i didn't want to go guerilla on up since we're a big group and it would be very embarassaing for the cosplayers if our shooting was halted and by the guards. the 'we're fine arts students' might work for a time but if someone has a white canon lens or brings out a big 1d or d2 series body would't the guards smell something fishy? (oh come on, how many fine arts students would use a bif prolevel dslr?)

in short, i wanted to minimize the risks we'll be taking, i wouldn't want our shoot to be hampered by not having a permit.

its along rufino st.(116 rufino) look for a building with a big ucpb sign on the ground floor. its almost at the corner.

aw wait po, is the venue changed? I think anyone can shoot at up anytime. And since we made our photography plates in UP with no one ever asking for a permit i think we will be able to shoot there. :) pakitaan ko ng id yang mga duard para ok, haha. :)
