Hi Ria,
Where do you get your CS3? You bought the license? How much?

Lightroom also has these options.
I noticed that the "fill light" option actually makes the background more or less pronounced (lightens or darkens the background).

If you're confused now, wait til you see Camera RAW 4.1
I've read that it will have a Clarity slider as well which is a large-radius unsharp mask.
Here's what they do:
Recovery: For recovering highlights.
Fill Light: Lightens the shadows.
Vibrance: A non-linear saturation slider which prevents colors that are already saturated from clipping.

If you download ACR 4.1 now, you will see that it does indeed have a new Clarity slider... just above the Vibrance and Saturation sliders.
Whats New:
Sharpening - is really the main new tool in Camera RAW 4.1, those of you who are familiar with Photoshop and the Unsharp Mask filter will recognize the interface, with a slight twist to new and more powerful tools. The sliders available for controlling the sharpening are Amount, Radius, Detail and Masking.
Amount - self explanatory, allows you to control the degree of sharpening applied from a value of 0 to 150.
Radius - lets you determine the number of pixels on either side of the sharpening edge.
Detail - is the new word for threshold, a new word had to be used because this slider allows you to use the sharpening tool as a straight sharpen filter or as an unsharp mask filter, going from one extreme to another.
Masking - allows you to do on the fly masking of the non-edge areas with a high degree of masking variation from a value of 0 to 150.
Noise Reduction
Clarity - The Clarity slider can be found together with Saturation and Vibrance sliders. It looks like Clarity is a low contrast area enhancement filter, which in the right images could be very useful. It is an implementation of Michael Riechmann's (www.luminous-landscape.com) Local Contrast Enhancement.

Fill Light - parang brightness lng din..
vibrance- saturate the muted colors but wouldn't oversaturate the already saturated colors

I just found this out yesterday while adjusting my images in Lightroom.
Holding down the ALT key while moving the sliders shows you where the details are clipping and gives you more control on the adjustments. :)
