In the meantime you can watch this video of the E-410 by Cameralabs (http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/OlympusE410/video_review.shtml). The full review compares the E-410 with the Canon 400D/XTi and Nikon D40x.

The E410 review is out. Wow incredible detail when NR off. The image comparisons with the 400D and D40x at low ISO's seem very favorable at NR off. Kudos to Oly for allowing such fine control over noise-reduction.

Had the chance to hold the E 410 and E 510 in Macau. The E 510 feels really comfortable to hold and has the perfect size but the E 410 seems otherwise.

E510 is release here in Singapore for 1300 sgd with 2 free 2gb cf card. This focusing and ISO handling of this camera is far far better than my old e500, focusing in low light is much better and the built and finishing is just perfect.

The built-in IS can be switch off and has two mode, you can turn off the horizontal IS if you want to do panning. I don't think theres a camera now on the market that can be compared to e510 in regards to it's features. Anyway I did some ISO 1600 and 800 shots in low light here are the samples: http://evolt500.multiply.com/photos/album/42

It's USD 999 in the US with 2 lens kit. What about here? I've been waiting for this for my upgrade, I delayed my Canon 400D just for this one, is it worth the wait? BTW, I am hoping Olympus Philippines will do the same TRADE-IN scheme of Olympus America, I think it's a great idea. I am hoping.....

Just saw in today's new york times online edition, five cam reviews that in my opinion had the best words for Olympus 510. The cast included Canon 400D and Nikon D40.

Parang maloloko ako. I had the 400D since December pa: I was hoping Oly would have the new models out by then.

Ang 100mm macro lens ng Canon, would it fit with Oly510 body?

Oly Users,
Philip

I went earlier in Megamall and Glorietta but nowhere I found an E410 and E510. I went on every computer and camera shop in both malls but they all said both models are not available yet.

There was also one guy in Camerahaus who is also looking for an E510 but decided on buying a Canon 400D out of frustration (and perhaps with the help of that nice salesperson in that store). The buyer said he does not frequent Metro Manila so decided on the 400D.

In Park Square, an Electroworld sales person told me that it will arrive first week of August but cant assure if it will really arrive. He added that the price will be 59,950.00 for the E510 but told that it is only for the 1 kit lens and the 2 kit lens will be almost 70K. Is this true?

This is kind of frustrating. The people handling Olympus seem not doing their job well. Anybody knows where it is available now (aside from sir Philip as I can't afford to get this on cash basis :()?

Nevertheless, I might be able to borrow a 400D for a week from a friend tomorrow. He is suggesting that he is letting it go for a bargain. If I am satisfied with it, then I have to let go of my E510 obsession.

I guess this happens often. Oly users have been telling Axis to have just one well-stocked store in Metro Manila.

Philip has confirmed that E-510 and E-410 2-lens kits are now available. You can get the E-510 2-lens kit now for P59,995.00 srp 0% interest, 12 months to pay. I guess the procedure is: (1) Call Philip and order. (2) He will direct you to a dealer to whom the unit will be sent. (3) Get the unit and pay using your card.

This is not as simple as going to a store and checking out the camera. You have to order to get it from a store.

Thank you for your posting.

I apologize for this. Apparently the dealers did not cascade the info correctly to the stores. To clarify, this is the price:

E-510 1442-4015059,995E-510 BODY 46,995
E-410 1442-4015047,995

You can purchase it via credit card up to 12mos 0%.
Dealers would take time to order because of their inventory. We can only pursuade them and tell them that several buyers are already interested with these models, but unless the send a PO, then we cannot deliver to them. That is why you can contact Philip however this will be on a cash basis. Rest-assure we are double-timing our efforts to have the units available in the store level. thank y0ou for your understanding

Sorry for the oversight... the E510 Body is 44,995 and NOT 46,995 SRP.
But this is arriving on August 10.

I bought a 2nd hand E-510, there was no USB cable included but I didn't worry much coz I thought its just an ordinary USB cable, but later I found out that it's different. Anyone knows where I can buy USB cable for E-510? I need to upgrade the camera's firmware to its latest 1.1 version. Or is the upgrade really matters on E-510?

Resty, congrats on your new purchase! :D

Yup, the USB cable for the E510 is different from the ordinary cable. You may try to contact Phillip Ng since he's more reliable in terms of product availability.

I would advice that you upgrade your firmware. According to several members of the Oly forum in DP Review, Version 1.1 firmware apparently fixes the underexposure tendency of the camera. And according to others, it also seemed to improve the focusing speed. Although, the official firmware note only states that the new version fixes the writing speed for fast CF cards.

I got my E510 already with the version 1.1 so I have no way of assessing such improvements. Good luck on your new camera! Keep shooting!:D

P.S.

Thanks Christian, this is my first SLR and I'm still learning techniques in the world of photography. Thanks for inviting and the advise as well, actually Philip and Randy already invited me to join the Oly Club and I really appreciate it. They gave me the yahoo group log-in details so I'll be joining later. Medyo busy pa kasi sa work kaya di ko pa maasikaso, hirap sa manufacturing...

I already contacted Philip and I might get an extra battery and some accessories, yung USB cable medyo namahalan ako kasi once ko lang gagamitin coz I always use a card reader. By the way, ano ba mas OK, gamit ako ng card reader or direct download from camera? Card reader is faster kaso baka madali kasi mag wear and tear pag laging tanggal-kabit ng card. On the other hand, if direct download, electronic component of camera might be over-used/burned specially when using high speed cards.

Your welcome Resty! I hope you can join us on the third Wednesday of the month for our meeting & photo contest. Details will be posted on the e-group.

Personally I prefer using a card reader as not to make the camera work overtime, hehehe. Don't worry about the wear & tear of the card or the camera's card slot as long as you insert the card properly & carefully. I've had my E300 for more than 2 1/2 years already and the cards I've been using are still OK. If you're on a PC, you can install an internal card reader to minimize the clutter, and although it's also wired via USB2 too on the motherboard, it seems a little faster than a card reader (about a 2-3 minutes faster on a 4gb CF).

True, the USB is rarely used. And If you feel that it is expensive, you can come to the meeting, and maybe we can update your firmware on the venue. I have to ask though if they have an internet connection. But I would still advice that you purchase one so as minimize the hassle of borrowing a cable or going places just for a firmware upgrade. I hope this helps. :)

And is it lead free?

At first i thought this was a joke! =b

I then realized that Mattel recalled their line of toys due to the high lead content..

I think everything is made in china now.. it doesn't really matter since Olympus maintains a high level of QC in all its products, so no worries there..

This is one way of making things affordable for us, so i really don't mind

No worries, after almost 3 years using the E300, I still haven't got any symptoms pertaining to lead poisoning. J/K! :D

I agree with Tokie, basing on the very scanty instances of an Oly gear being a dud compared to those made by the 2 bigger players, I'm sure quality control is one of the utmost priorities of Olympus. Olympus is still the biggest player in Medical Optics... which entails extraordinary QC standards. :D

Can I just ask how much is the E-410 with the dual kit lens locally? I've been eyeing it because it's lightweight and small...(perfect for my small and clumsy hands...hahaha!)

I've seen it all over Amazon and Ebay and Olympus online (ranges from $600-$800) and even a great deal at $749...but locally, how much is it?

So it's better to safe than sorry. At all costs, avoid putting your cameras in your mouth!

Question lang po i'm right now looking for a dslr and ask ko lang what's the difference between E-410 and E-510. Pros and cons po ng olympus brand?

I think this comparison (http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/OlympusE510/verdict.shtml) gives the info you are looking for. My experience with the Oly E-series has been very good. The bodies and kit lenses are better-made than their Canon/Nikon counterparts in my opinion. There are no issues with dust. Many users like the Oly colors straight out of the camera. The oft-cited issues on High ISO noise, slow AF speed and small sensor size are not deal-breakers for me. For the new photo enthusiast with no investment in another brand, Olympus presents a real alternative.

Re E-410 vs E-510, the biggest difference locally is the price spread: E510 is P60k while the E410 is P46k. Philip Ng can sell them at 10% less for cash purchase but local mall shops can sell at 12months 0% interest. The E-510's only advantage for the newcomer is in-body image stabilization (IS) for all four-thirds lenses. Canon and Nikon have lens-based IS which can get more expensive as one adds lenses. If you are coming from a P/S camera, the liveview feature of all new Oly bodies (E410, E510, E3) can ease your transition to a DSLR.
