Hi Nino,

I'm new to PS and my current SW is the elements 2 which was only given to me. I know it's a very old version, but I can't affort to buy the newer version yet. :) In sharpening my pictures, I use the unsharp mask function but somehow, my pictures always tend to become grainy even if it was taken at ISO 100. My setting is 160%, 4, 5.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Your radius setting of 4 could be too large, but it depends on the image. For 160% you should be around 2 if you are talking about a global sharpen of the entire image.

Jonathan, try this 100%, 1.5 and 2.

if the radius is to large, you might want to play around with the threshold and increase it.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

Caloy, I tried using your settings, but I barely notice a change in the sharpness of my picture. Maybe my picture is really blurred to start with? :)

I saw another thread in the forum which was all about sharpening, too. I'll read through those again (which I should have done in the first place).

Thanks again.

pm me a link to your pic Jon...or as nino said play with the radius and threshold values. "Preview" should be click to see any change in the pic as you increase the values. :)
