Francis,
An alternative approach is to cost the project (include value of your time). Anything above it means you make a profit; anything below means...
Capische? ;)

tnx guys for ur quick reply...
the client is asking for 100pcs 5R prints and proof in CD
the ugly part here is that, the client searched for some other photographers and they say that other studio can deliver the scope of the event for around 8,500 with additional viddeo coverage for free, with 100 prints 5R.
i think that the client here is bluffing re this...
if this is true... so sad... they're really killing the industry...

not only that. kawawa yun photog ng studio, kasi maliit lang yun take home ng photog. but anyways, if i were the one who's gonna shoot that event. id charge them 15k atleast (why? i know my qualifications, plus, the gears i use arent that cheap). its a recital. im pretty sure the performers would love to get copies of their photos. the thing is, you gotta show that you have confidence when you talk to clients, and not all that is cheap is good...

Hi Francis,
When quoting your possible client, dont just think of the cost for you. We all know a 5r is less than 20pesos per piece but what about your time for the day? what about the depreciation of the gear? post production..will you be editing each and every piece of the 100 images or print as is? Will you be hiring an extra photographer to help cover? 12 hours is a long time. Will they feed you? gas cost? for 8,500 and i think that I would rather spend the day doing what I really want to do rather than kick myself for accepting a job that made me "barat" and be left with nothing but a headache after all the costs
I suggest this, quote your client by doing a breakdown. it will clarify things and make you look more professional than the competitor.
Example figures only...
12 hours coverage 7:30 am to 7:00 pm P 10,000
100 5x7 prints edited ( be specific of amt of editing) 100 each P 10,000
Video Edited 30 mins non-linear ect... P 7,500
Include your freebies like:
Free:
Assistant Photographer
Raw Footage of Video
Full resolution copy of photos taken
Mention the gear that will be used
ex
8 Megapixel camera
3 CCD Video camera
Maybe you can also give them a sample image (if you have one) so that they have an idea what to expect.
Good luck and if you dont get the job, dont let that discourage you. It has happened to many of us:Grin: .

@ Pilar
Well said madam.
Can't shoot with empty stomach. Bfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks for two. 7-7 huh that's tough. If you dont get the job, there are a lot of clients who's more than willing to pay for your talent. Let it go bro quality is better than quantity.

tnx guys for ur thoughts about this... i agree with most of ur suggestions and tips... i already turned down the offer for 8,500 and suggested them to get the studio they're reffering to who can render the service at this price...
additional info on the scope of the event other than no flash of any kind will be used inside the theater... no power source will be given for photogs and videoman to chrage thier batts... the whole prog will rely solely on fully charge batt to cover the whole event. wow!
tnx again guys for ur valuable time and suggestion...
