View Full Version : Bangkok, WHERE and WHAT to shoot?
John Edward Taca 07-29-2006, 11:30 AM Hi guys, I'm leaving for bangkok next week. I have approx two days to shoot. Any suggestion on how I can maximize my time there?
Syempre I'd like to shoot what's unique and maybe exotic about the place. Having a good feel of what bangkok is about would be good too =)
Will appreciate your inputs :)
Nick Tuason 07-29-2006, 01:22 PM The Temple of Dawn- Wat Arun. Time it at either sunrise or sunset.
The Floating Market- a drive away from the main city but worth it. You need to catch it in the morning at around 6am so that means a 3 am wakeup call if you want to make it.
For street photography- almost everywhere. But how about the red light district such as Patpong or Soi Cowboy?
I could go on and on but others here can give their insights too.
Cross you fingers Manny Librodo picks up on this thread. :D
John Edward Taca 07-30-2006, 12:25 AM Thanks Nick! I'll keep them in mind..
Paging Manny "the Man" Librodo =)..fingers crossed =)
paoloquiazon 12-12-2007, 11:24 AM I'm going to be in Bangkok from December 31 to January 4 and I wanted to ask for your opinions (on top of what has already been mentioned) on what to shoot and places to go to for photo-ops while I'm there :)
Thanks!

Edwin_Martinez 12-12-2007, 11:37 AM take the ayuthayya river cruise, almost 10 hours tour of three temple site and a river cruise with buffet. not bad.
Barbarra Lee 12-12-2007, 11:41 AM I agree with shooting the Floating Market, kuya. It's just so much fun to be there and you get to see one of Thailand's oldest activities, plus the attitude that they put to merchandising. I tell you it's worth it. O kaya naman po the Bangkok Flea market itself. That one close to the First House hotel. You will not believe it's Thailand because there's just aloottt of different races there esp this season. O kaya punta ka sa Pattaya island if youre after the nature and sexy girls. Ingat kalang kasi minsan yun akala mong sexy girls, TRANSVESTITE pala. Nakawin pa ang camera mo. O kaya naman kung buddha buddha ang type mo, sa mga day tours nila if you can join one, you will surely bump into this hugggeeee buddha in the city na singlaki ng building. I just forgot the name eh. Pero it's a nice location to shoot, it conveys so much about Thailand's culture.

Hi John and Paolo! are you going to stay in the hotel? if so get a tourist guide with you provided or arrange by the hotel concierge and let them know that you are interested on taking photos of historical places... (Brochures are available on the desk) try to go also in one place where the largest position of Budha temple is... that is in one of the temple near the UN embassy, I forgot the name of that place... don't waste ur time going to Ruby diamond show factory.. for sure they will offer u to go there ignore it, instead go to safari.
Safety TIPS:
*be carefull on walking around Prong-Pong streets.
*Make sure you're camera is on your neck strap always.
*Avoid changing lenses try to use wide or telephoto lens.
*Avoid talking to strangers as much as you can, stay with your guide.
*just in case you pass by on one of the park do not leave ur bag unattended their are some trained monkeys to quickly grab ur bag. (Not a joke CTE)
For shopping:
*go to MBK for cheap shopping.
*Food the best kahit saan !!
****Give tips to your T-guide not more than 500-BAT.
I think that's it!!
Enjoy ur Trip & dont forget to share your photos with us!!
Cheers!!:)

Manuel Libres Librodo 12-13-2007, 07:48 PM The floating market is a must. So much to photograph there. Quite overwhelming. Assign yourself an "assignment" to make your shots less "snapshot-ish".
Here are sample shots from my brother's gallery.

then drive 1.5 hrs going to Ancient city (Photographers haven) where you meet lots of photogs. Ancient city is like Nayong Pilipino but its bigger and many places to see.
Sample shot here. Taken at a top of the cliff overlooking the giant sleeping buddha.

Greg Morales 12-13-2007, 10:10 PM there is a nice photo store in MBK Mall I think it's calle Photo thailand....the photogrpahy is better in the North...Changrai or Changmai more of the countryside and better temples. But if your stay is short try the Chao Praya river cruise...get off at the golden palace...tama ba yun??? basta its the royal palace i guess....
