Marcos,
You need not thank me. As you said, the people from the PBL (Tommy Ong, Butch Maniego and Chino Trinidad) are very accomodating for as long as you know the rules in shooting the games. :)
The composition and timing are all there, Marcos. Congrats! Although I find the pictures a little bit on the blurry side.
As I texted you before you got to the venue, the Olivares Stadium in Sucat is not so well-lit (unlike The Arena in San Juan). In fact, it is one of the worst in the country. It could be very limiting, and sometimes, even the prime lenses wouldn't hack it, moreso, zoom lenses (w/o a flash). I checked one of your photos' exif and your shutter speed is at 1/100 (shooting at 173mm). This is the reason why the action on your shots are not so frozen. I guess it all depends on what we really want. If you were after panning shots, congratulations! But if not, then I must say that your shutter speed was too slow to freeze the action. Image Stabilization or IS is useless in moving subjects so most of the time, you have to follow the shutter speed's correlation to the focal length rule. e.g. At 200mm, you have to shoot at 1/250 or faster or else your photos might not be that sharp because of camera shake.
Since you're shooting with a 5D (wow, sarap!), my suggestion is that you jack that ISO up to 1600 and above so that you could get faster shutter speeds. With a 5d, images of ISO 1600 and above are very usable (even at 3200!). From my experience, 1/250 is the slowest one could go to achieve minimum motion blur in Philippine Basketball. (1/320 would be great, 1/400 would be perfect!)
Again, the PBL is very happy that you and some of the other guys took some time out to shoot the action. Try shooting at The Arena if you have the time. They play there on weekends. The lighting there is definitely better than that of Olivarez's.
Best regards, Marcos!

yes al youre correct, ur the master of indoor sports.
marcos, for me, your shots were great but a little blurry especially on moving players (iunless thats your style) and try to produce high resolution, because your photos are too little to see the details if you know what i mean. try 400x600, or bigger. youll see the details and difference, unless you have a reason why you use very small resolution. =) cheers!
