View Full Version : OM Lenses
Tok Paler 07-27-2006, 01:33 AM Thanks so much for this forum! I now have someone to relate to with regards to the Oly 4/3 system! =)
On with the question...
What OM lenses are compatible with the E-system (with the OM adapter of course)?
How do i get a hold of them?
How do they fare especially since they don't have autofocus?
I know zuiko are one the best lens manufacturers around but does anyone have sample photos taken with an OM Lens on an E-system?
Makulit ba ako? =b hehehe =)
thanks in advance! looking forward to your reply =)
JonDexterTan 07-27-2006, 05:51 AM Hi Tok! What can I say about OM lenses... well, I've never tried them on OM bodies, that's for sure. hehe!
these are pics taken when I received my OM lenses from ebay:

Tok, I recommend getting only Zuiko made OM lenses for their quality (though Jimmy and Bert have great experiences with non-Zuiko OMs). It's weird coz it handles ver well, i mean the focusing. makes me wich I tried the OM bodies of old.
I love the OM lenses.
I know you will too! :)

bert dalusung 07-27-2006, 09:24 AM Check this link (http://www.biofos.com/cornucop/omz_e1.html) for actual photos of various OM lenses on an E-1. PM me if you wish to acquire a Zuiko 135f/3.5 and/or Zuiko 300f/4.5.

JonDexterTan 07-27-2006, 11:46 AM hey jim! the sandwich and ice cream was last night's midnight snack! haha! I was fooling around with some lights and a black background. mighty fine shot with that Inverted Lens adapter! I WANT I WANT! hahaha! :D
Tok Paler 07-27-2006, 12:03 PM Those are beautiful!
Are you able to attach the teleconverter to the adapter? The 2x lens factor still applies though, right?
How does the metering perform with the OM Lens?
Thanks so much for the input guys! =) I'm definetly getting a couple.. well, they cost less than the Zuiko Digital lenses, that's for sure =b
JonDexterTan 07-27-2006, 12:12 PM hi! I haven't tried Telecons but my extension tubes are Olympus OMs and they are attached to the OM lens first and then the adapter to the camera!
Regarding the metering, I don't use any adjustments with my E-1 but I stop down a third in M or use -0.3EV on the E-500 :D oh yeah, Center Weighted or Spot Metering are the best. :D though I get away with ESP sometimes.
Enjoy! :D
bert dalusung 07-27-2006, 02:03 PM Another macro technique here (http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/oly-e/macro-bellows.html).
Tok Paler 07-28-2006, 12:35 AM I guess that's what the LCD is for =b photo chimping!
I just got a 28mm f1.4 for a grand from an obscure camera repair shop along hidalgo, was it worth the buy? everything was crystal clear (from what i can see, at least) not a smudge on the rear element and he even threw in the SKY filter and the soft case that came along with it..
What do you guys think?
JonDexterTan 07-28-2006, 05:44 AM OLY-moly it's a good buy alright!!! my 28mm is only f3.5 :(
not it's time for adapter hunting! try to see if Axis has stocks na, they're cheaper than from getting one outside last time I've checked.

As I recall, Olympus did not make any 28f/1.4. Is this made by another manufacturer? Have you tested it? Would appreciate to see a sample.

Tok Paler 08-01-2006, 11:20 PM Quick question

JonDexterTan 08-02-2006, 05:27 AM yes, the usable modes are Aperture Priority and Manual.

bert dalusung 08-26-2006, 11:29 PM Another macro setup: I remember I have a set of OM extension tubes & close-up filters for the 49mm size. These will work with the 50mm f/1.8 and 135mm f/3.5. Hope to locate them and post some shots.

hope i can see your setup, by the way what's a close up filter?? *sorry newbie*
bert dalusung 08-27-2006, 10:46 AM Close up filters are like magnifying glasses for your lens. They used to be popular because they allowed closer focusing of lenses at low cost. Here is a website (http://dpfwiw.com/filters.htm#close-up) with more details. Normally you buy it in a batch of 4 "filters": +1, +2, +3 and +4.
Paul Olegario 09-28-2006, 05:19 PM Taken using my Zuiko OM 50/1.4 although not with an Oly. Canon 350D :).
Don't you just love that bokeh.

JonDexterTan 09-28-2006, 09:35 PM does your 350D meter with that lens?
Paul Olegario 09-28-2006, 09:50 PM does your 350D meter with that lens?
Yup, works with Av (aperture priority), P (program) and M (manual) mode. In fact, it works with all my manual-focus lenses of different mounts. :)
Oh, except the Canon FD lenses. Ironic, since it's a Canon. :D
JonDexterTan 09-28-2006, 10:03 PM cool! i just sold 2 om lenses (50 1.4 and 28 2.8) when i sold my e-1 and e-500. sayang. :( hehehe! i didn't know i could use them on my 30D.
Jimmy Rosaria 09-28-2006, 11:17 PM nice shot paul... same reason why i really love the om lens... the best for bokeh... it can create an illussion :)
check my sample here http://www.pbase.com/bridgebolt/nba&page=all

Dick_reyes 09-29-2006, 09:57 PM Can I use my old nikkor lenses(manual) and attach it to my e-300?
Just wondering coz Paul used an OM lens attached to a Canon.:)

Yes you can. You just need a Nikon F to 4/3 mount adapter like this.
http://www.cameraquest.com/jpg/4thirdsNF.jpg (http://www.cameraquest.com/adapt_olyE1.htm)
I use M42 (aka Pentax screw mount), OM, Contax/Yashica, and even Pentacon Six (medium format) lenses on my Canon and they work just fine.

cholodelavega 10-10-2006, 07:49 PM hi paul, gumagana paba auto focus kapag may mount adapter?
Paul Olegario 10-10-2006, 08:17 PM hi paul, gumagana paba auto focus kapag may mount adapter?
Teka, mahirap yatang paganahin yung auto-focus kapag manual-focus yung lens. :)
Using manual-focus lenses on DSLRs.
cholodelavega 10-11-2006, 06:48 AM haha ibig sabihin ba ng OM, olympus manual? hehe :D
Ryan Lucas 10-22-2006, 08:11 PM guys...available ba locally yung om adapter? thanks.
