View Full Version : Canon dslr price drop?
Mel Enriquez 07-26-2006, 08:38 PM To all,
I was wondering, with the impending Nikon d70 replacement (w/c is a 10mp), can we expect that Canon may drop the price of the 20d (what's left stocks) or 30d drop any further? I don't think it's the 350d that will drop further, as it seems to be in line with the D50 while the 20d/30d is with the d70/200.
I will be looking for a 2nd body soon, and I tend to favor a 20d/30d but if waiting a bit more will save me some money, I am willing to wait it out. :)

John Edward Taca 07-26-2006, 09:39 PM i would haggle hard and buy na. unless i'm considering the new nikon.. but thats me.
i also did the waiting game but after buying my first dslr 3 months down the road i felt that my newly purchasd stuff was already old and needed another replacement. so i did just that! im happy (for) now..haha
consider getting slightly used gear out there too. theyll save you a ton of money because of the rapid depreciation of camera bodies =)

Well, in another thread, someone posted that the 30d can be had for P60k. That's good!
Ahh, but now the d80 is officially announced. Except for the 3fps, and maybe high ISO noise (w/c we still have to wait in fairness to Nikon), it looks very, very much like the 30D! It can also take a grip now too! And the official price is U$999. I'm sure it's going to drop to U$850-900 in a couple of months unless, demand again outstrips supply.

I hope, and I really, do hope this Cris, that the 30d will be sold at around U$55k!!!!
I think, I'll wait it out!
Or if some 20d users out there wants to get rid of their 20d for a good price, I might consider that too.

Ooops! I meant P55k!
anyway, as I read on the specs and what the d80 can do, I really can't help it's like a 30d in most of the specs and capabilities.

That should be. Last I heard (and this is over a month ago), a bnew 20d is around P55k. Heck, if it's true that the 30d is only P60k, well, I can bite that P5k difference and get the 30d.
But if want to be on a budget, then I'd wait it out on a used 20d. Dang, my friend got his 20d for P86k me thinks. I got mine used for P58k when it was at P80k. Now you can get one for P40-45k used or P55k bnew with RP warranty!!!!
If Canon does introduce a new model, then for sure the 20d or even the 30d price will drop. So, if you can hold on, John, best to wait it out a bit more. It's less than a month. In fact, Canon traditionally does an announcement in mid-August. That's just a week or so away.

It's NOT true. As of this writing, 30D with local canon warranty (YES with warranty card & hologram on the box) will set you back at least 68k (cash price). All this talk of gray market sellers in Hidalgo maybe the source of cheaper units, but best be sure you get BOTH warranty card & hologram on the box.
I also loath the "style-bulok" of some vendors there. Modus Operandi is usually to give unusually low price for items they don't have in stock just to spoil a sale that would otherwise go to their competitor who has them in stock.
That's why I don't factor in a price from a seller in Hidalgo unless I see an actual unit on the shelves.

That's probably true, Dave. But I'm almost sure that the 30d with canon phil warranty is 65k with no kit lens. The gray market I last checked was P61.5k. I won't say who :-)

True. True.

I have a couple of vendors I trust. And they have not let me down yet (after 3 years), so it's just a matter of knowing who to deal with. They are bit pricier, but I am after support and them telling me if its gray or not. And they do. I got my 10-22 gray and the advantage is that it even came with a pouch.
FYI, lenses have Int'l warranty IF you get them from a recognized dealer (e.g. B&H in NY or the like). Talked with Canon and they will honor this. You have to show proof of purchase though. Usually, primes have no problems. Zooms can have problems, so I'd be weary if I would buy a U$1,700 70-200 f2.8L IS abroad if your friend does not know how to check if it is good or not, even if it will carry an Int'l warranty. I'd go as far as calibration or cleaning for that warranty, but if there is a crack or busted IS, it may be more troublesome.
Ramon of Mayer is, well, "bolero." Ok. to have a chat with him, but I'd take half of what he says with a grain of salt. It's funny how he would be a Nikon fan if the one in front of him is a Nikon buyer and then switch to Canon if it's a Canon customer. It's really funny. But many pros buy from him not just because of
If I were buying a flash, I can get it from them, but when I am buying new tech or stuff that requires some close look, or testing, I'd go elsewhere. That's why I never bought the HC3 from him or stuff that I really need support if it conks out. I had to test this HD camera and their shop is too crowded. Of course. That is the problem with Mayer, their store is like a bodega and palenke. I also know that item I bought is not Sony Phils. Sony does not even have that camera introduced yet last time I checked. When I am buying gray, I go to Henry or somewhere else if I want better support. Not that Ramon won't help you out, but with all his volume and his bolero style, it's hard to swallow everything. Nice guy to talk with though
