Any recommendations?

Does those hi-end models like Gitzo, manfrottos have those combo models?

Pan/tilt or Ballhead?

What models are worth the price?

I have both and each has its own use. Carbon fibers are best, especially if you carry around a lot of equipment with you.

The closest you'll get to a combo are the Manfrotto monopods that have those stands built-in but these are not to be used for a long period of time and has a very low weight limit. :)

Wow! looks like I will be saving up more!

Anyway, what models do you recommend? available there in Manila? Do we have a Philippine distributor or showroom?

I've seen those made in china, manfrotto knock-offs. are they good? :)

Which do you prefer pan/tilt heads or ball heads?

sensya na so many questions....

Don't even bother with the knock offs. I used to have one, but gave up on me. Manfrotto's Philippine distributor is Island Multi, located at Gamboa St., in Legaspi Village, Makati. The showroom is also there.

@Lyndon

I used to have a pan/tilt head, and now use a ballhead which I prefer. :)

I use both, depends on what lens im shooting. Buy the carbon Fiber tripods and monopods. Gitzo or Manfrotto is fine. For ballheads I recommend Arca swiss. Very solid stuff.

yup dont get the fake ones. Even though I was using a velbon as my first tripod I wasnt at ease to leave my camera on it for a long peroid of time. when I got to try my current tripod it was a world of difference. Choose wisely and save up for the best equipment that is actually in your budget. It's just going to be a problem for you to sell the old tripod if ever you will think of upgrading in the future.

my main workhorse is a benbo Mk I. it works in any which way you want it, even on the reefs in batanes or tawitawi. i combine it with either a 222 or a 468 manfrotto ballhead. works great but you have to get used to it. see my combo at www.pbase.com/bobbyw/batanes6. good luck!

I use Velbon Sherpa 650R and Giottos monopod 9900. Very useful since I have Bigma/ Canon 70-200 2.8L telephoto zooms. I bought my Velbon tripod from JT Photoworld while my Giottos monopod from Henry's Camera-Hidalgo

will the giottos ball head screw in on the head of the manfrotto? do they all have the same diameter?

Manfrotto 190xprob (aluminum) or 190cxpro3 Mag-Fiber
Manfrotto 486cr2
works best for most application. Light weight configuration. Loads upto 5kg, just right for most setup.

Cheers!
