Hi guys,

Do any of you use a radio slave/trigger (pocketwizard,bowens...) to trigger a 580ex or 430ex and what is it?

Any info would be much appreciated. Salamat.

Tri Star. You can purchase it from Avenue Photo in Hidalgo.

Although some swear by Pocketwizard which is available from Aperture Trading in Banawe, QC.

Hello Sachi. Here are some links to help you out (they pretty much deal with pocketwizards):

To quote from one of these links:

"I use the 580ex with my PW's, so I think I can help you here. You will need to get a mini-phone to hot-shoe adaptor, which can be bought from paramount cords for about $40 each."

if you just want to fireup those 2 flash heads, canon has the ST-E2. it'll fireup the canon 5xx &4xx flash heads. that's what i use when i go remote. your 5xx also has a built in MASTER to trigger another 5xx or 4xx flashes.

Tri Star is cheaper. A trigger-receiver combo only costs about P5k.

But Pocketwizard has a further range.

Some studio strobes are also compatible with Pocketwizards.

thank for all the helpful info guys. The only thing i dont like about the ste2's and the 550 as master is it's Infrared, its only field of view. So if your flash is out of range it wont fire, also it has been erratic for me. My setup right now is the 580 triggers my 430. But it's good to have them in a pinch.

ST-E2 is linear, while PW's and Tri-star operates via radio sugnals... :)

if you are shooting NOT so distant from the subject (i.e. 5 to 10meters), just go for the cheaper one. if you are shooting stage shows and want to attach a large softbox above the stage (at the ceiling), and want to take the photo from a distance, then you 'll need PWs...

just budget conscious here... :)

you would require extra receivers if you'll be using some other 580EXs/480EXs. And I would suggest you also to get a portable battery that will power your flashes.
