Establishing your style and subject matter in fine arts photography will dictate your buyers to buy your work....is it a long shot?
Question is how?, can you do it alone without the support of the media or a publisher?, do you only see b&w as fine arts photography? how long do you need to exhibit in a gallery in order for you to be accepted as artist photographer?, are there gallery etiquettes as well as artist photographers etiquette for you to be supported by a gallery or by your peers? What are saleable and what is not?, is there a short cut to become famous?, how come and why since the Order of National Artists created not even one master of Philippine photography filled that honor?, do you think art appreciation and art education plays an important part in fine art photography acceptance? if the government sucks when it comes to artistic grants and art politicking, who will do that? do you only see fine art photography as "prints"? what's you're idea of a succesful fine art show, is't through sales alone?...the floor is open now for discussion:Thinking: :)

Huwwwwaaaaaaaa......

Too many questions that cannot be connected and with different answer and point of view.

However, I'm gonna give you a one quick answer and let the other share their point of view.

can you do it alone without the support of the media or a publisher?

Ans: I think no. Like Manny Pacquiao, if there's no such media like Television and Radio; I think he's nothing.

do you only see b&w as fine arts photography?

Ans: No. Fine arts is very broad and even Photography.

Thanks...

the people is "wedding". hehe..

would you start establishing your style because of the buck? or on what is mabenta?

just curious... as i believe half the question here is on how to market their craft...

Agree... And yet you must have your own style to market your craft...

You must be standout to the others. It's a matter of style and creativity. Like Manny Librodo and Davehill, they have different style and yet many of us replicating their craft.

Hope its help.

i was actually lost with the title. i thought its about starting fine arts photography... which is really cool to try.

in my opinion, this is actually 'how to start or to establish a style in commercial fine arts photography'

i got somewhat interested in the topic after wawi's talk at the 1st dpp eb. and as far as i remember fine art's photography is about the ideas and the processes involved.

i just thought that if you start this on a marketing viewpoint or strategy... you might compromised your ideas.

@Ross, how do you determine which artist gets a shot at your own gallery? We'd love to know how a gallery owner like yourself sifts through the amount of local artists you're exposed to as well :).

To the others, I don't think Ross is asking for a shortcut or quick-fix solution but merely starting an open forum :).

I guess one of the ways to measure the success of a fine art exhibit is through a peer review, your colleagues being authoritative about the subject matter.

However, I also think that art shouldn't remain confined to the artist's circles and would be more effective if it is exposed to a bigger audience. That is where the media plays in and through it art's efficacy and power is harnessed.

And I take no discrimination against the production of sale-able pieces. Just as long as the vision is maintained. I think a balance can be achieved discreetly.

If you take away tv and radio, say even take print away and sheer talent is left to Pacquiao, don't you think that's still something?
