Any idea how long will it last? say on a D70s?

What do we do if it reaches its end?

:Dum:

Based from the reviews that Ive read its around 70k to 100k clicks.

But there are some lemon units that dies at 30k level :(

Dont worry too much... a friend of mine just had his shutter unit replaced in columbia... cost him 8k (originally 6k but he has to wait for 3 weeks... so he paid an additional 2k (rush work) and got his D70 the next day):)

btw, i think his old shutter lasted around 80k++ clicks...

just a question...

how would we know if the shutter has reached its end or is not good already?

will you have bad shots? or will it just stop clicking?

I have 11,530+ actuations with mine :P Good to know its easy to fix when it dies out.

@ francis

i think when the shutter fails, you can no longer take pix (shutter button wont click)... :(

lets just hope that our units are no lemons... hehehe:)

What a hold-up. Can't we do something about Columbia's over pricing?

Do you know how much a low pass filter cost? It's 2K. But Columbia will charge you 6K because the service is always at 4K minimum.

This is like robbing us.

Don't they know they are being unreasonable?

Hopefully, we will no longer have this problem if the plan to put up a Nikon Service Center in Hidalgo pushes thru (will not be under Columbia). :)

i used to worry about the shutter of my cam (d200 currently at 20++K shots) but then again.. nikon is known for quality and im sure when the time comes, i have earned at least enough to have it replaced... overpriced columbia... maybe it's cheaper pa to have it sent to singapore to hongkong :d

@ francis

dont worry... your D200 is rated @ 100k-150k clicks before the shutter dies :)

so a lot of photo ops to shoot!!! :)

Hi guys!

My D70 is at 105K actuations and I'm just waiting for it to die. It still sound like brand new though. Bravo to Nikon!!! I can truly say that it's "professional" enough for me. A complete bargain compared to Canon's equivalent model.

The D70 resets it's counter back to "0" after 65,353 shots. I use PreviewExtractor to monitor my actuations. I credit Rene Gaviola for sharing this info. Pass on the good news!

Thanks!

This is definitely good news!!! 105k? and still alive... alright!!!

Hopefully my unit survives that long :)

Levi, internet rumor has it that the D1x's shutter mechanism is like the D70's. So, I hope my shutter dies at 150K. Or better. If mine reaches 250K w/o repair then this is for the Guiness book!

A pro wedding photog who uses the D70 had his shutter replaced after 100K actuations.

Hi, Dexter. What program is this? Does the Nikon software that came with the camera have this function (haven't tried installing it kasi). :D

I guess we better celebrate if it hits 250K actuations! It'll shame top-end models. I'll have Columbia verify the actuations so it's official from the technicians. Stay tuned!

150K death will put my D70 in the D1X pro league. It's a very underrated camera-reallly.

i thought dslr supersedes film slr for its superiority, why should a dslr have a shutter lifespan? does this mean film slr lasts longer specially those that are made during the 70's, 80's and so on...

:) 'Coz, the materials and design are different... Realistically optimized for a certain period of use to achieve total synchronized performance... The premise here is that these parts are easily replaced after considerable wear and tear.

...About vintage cams lasting longer... Well, this is case to case...

The shutter is part mechanical and as such, it is subject to wear and tear. Also, do you know how many rolls of film it will take to reach 100,000 actuations? Think about it...

Hi, everyone.

I'm curious. When you buy a brand new DSLR, does it follow that the shutter actuations should be "0" or close to it?

Since I downloaded the programs that was recommended, I saw that around the time I bought my camera, it already had around 700 shutter actuations

Raffy, seems like you've been ripped off... A couple of frames is understandable usually below 30 (ideally it should be 0 though)... But 700 is just way too much...
