View Full Version : Looking for Canvas Backgorunds
paul chiongson 07-24-2006, 11:12 AM Greetings everyone, I am in the process of opening a small studio in Iloilo and not being too familiar with Manila, I would like to get tips on where to look for canvas backgrounds to purchase. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Rosscapili 07-24-2006, 11:54 AM Hi Paul,
What do you mean canvas background? for printing or for studio shoot as background using canvas? There are lots of canvas here in Manila being sold by meter by Shell Canvas. If you are based in Iloilo i can recommend an artist friend who uses canvas as his support for painting, his name is PG Zuluaga, he owns one of the galleries there in Robinsons mall Iloilo. Another photographer friend Carlos Garcia might be of help to you (he sells art materials). Let me know so i can PM you their contact numbers:)
paul chiongson 07-24-2006, 02:41 PM Hi Ross,
PG and I are friends as well. I was refering to large canvases for studio shoot backgrounds around 20ft x 16ft minimum. I already have paper but they are so awkward to bring around for location shoots. I'm planning to head back to Manila sometime next month, I would appreciate it if you can give me the contact number & address of Shell Canvas or any other shop that you are aware of that has similar type canvases I am looking for. There is the option of having something that big sewn but I don't think its ideal since the seams will show, I personally prefer to do less post processing on images if they can be avoided. Thanks
Rosscapili 07-24-2006, 04:37 PM Are you planning to have it painted before the shoot? i bought cloth background recently at FotoLam in Hidalgo, size is around 10 ft by 15 ft, its not similar to muslin which have this typical batik design patterns- and its lighter than canvas. I will PM you the contact numbers of Shell Canvas, but as far as i know they have only around 6ft in width and that's the reason why i have to order from Pakistan my 15ft wide canvas when a client commissioned my painting:)
paul chiongson 07-24-2006, 06:05 PM I'm not a big fan of batik patterns, I am looking for plain backgrounds Black/gray, khaki and white. I guess my fallback is to get the widest available width, have them sewn together and depend on Photoshop magic again. *sigh*
:(
Rosscapili 07-24-2006, 06:30 PM its not batik, almost plain, but with crumpled textures. Another option is the seamless background, around 10ft wide. Those b/g can be acquired from Wysen. They have plain colored red, blue, white, black, grey, pink, yellow, and green. Roughly 3t per color:)

Hi Paul.
For plain seamless backgrounds, you can check them out with Aperture Trading. They have tons of colors to choose from and have great service. You may also want to inform them that you are in iloilo to see how they can ship it to you.
