Feel free to comment on these photos, my first time to try product shots and using a lightbox as well.

Based my lightbox on the Strobist model. (http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-diy-10-macro-photo-studio.html)

It was made out of illustration board strips for the legs, sheets of bond paper for the left, right and top side panels, white cartolina for the infinity cove and the back panel, scotch tape for the sheets of bond paper and masking tape to hold the columns together and to attach the bond paper panels to the legs. It's pretty flimsy and I plan to make a sturdier one next time.

I did not want to add clutter to Homer's thread so I started this one.

No PP on these photos. I think my EXIF data for these photos would be ISO800, f2.8, 1/60-1/80, AWB using a Sigma 24-70mm on a 20D, handheld.

Hmm, the background is not white. I guess I should use a different WB setting then?

Thank you so much for the heads up. I've been thinking about a light box to photograph small items for ebay, but I just couldn't bring myself to dish out a hundred or so bucks for something I will only use occasionally. This $10 baby is just right up my alley. With a little dumpster-diving, I could probably built it for less.

Hey Fids!

Cool idea and good fab skills. I believe some of the pictures are underexposed that's why the background isn't white that and there's not much light hitting the bg. Use a tripod too so that you don't have to shoot @ 800 iso :) I like the night crawler one :)

EDIT: I have the same lamp hahaha :)

I see, I see. Thanks Marton. Haha, I have to admit, I was too lazy to use the tripod last night, will do next time. :D

It sure is a tough light, been with us for around 10 years already. Hahahaha. :)

Hi Fidel,

I tried creating this DIY Lightbox using a small balikbayan box (20x20) and tracing paper. For the background, i tried using black felt paper. I placed my main light source at the left side of the lightbox. I seem to be having a problem getting a rich, black background.

1. On top of the main light source that you used on the right, did you also use an external flash?

2. What was your light source in the room? What I noticed was if i allowed the fluorecent light in my room to enter the top panel of the lightbox, the colors got screwed up. When I covered the top panel and just relied on the light (provided by my lamp) coming through the side panels, colors were more accurate.

By the way, thanks for sharing this information. It's a good opportunity for us to experiment and learn.

nice shots fidel, IMHO i think u need to add more light pa, kc the shots are a bit dark esp the background;). Anyway, the 1st one - nightcrawler is my fave :)
