PSP is cheaper. Way cheaper. PhotoShop is like a Ferrari and PSP is like a Honda. The question you need to answer is this. Do you need a car to drive on the autobahn, or drive to the grocery store? It is a question of utility. What are your requirements, then you bounce that against your resources. Did that help? I use PSP Photo XI most of the time now and it satisfies my requirements very nicely.

Difference?

Psp is easier to use, but with less features. For one it cannot open/edit RAW files.

Ive been using PSP since PSP3, then I upgraded to PSP8 and now its PSPXI. Im happy with it.

@ Dino,

Does the PSP XI support PEF (pentax raw format)? If so, can you now edit raw in XI version?

@ benluna,

What are the things/features you like in PSP? Can you more of your experience on this software? Thanks in advance.

Hello Nat,

PSP is very easy to learn and consequently easy to use. It can do way more than a casual (or even a professional) photographer will need to post-process a photograph. I am of the opinion that if you do it right to begin with (exposure, composition, and the like), you won't really have to do a lot of post processing except when you work for a portrait studio or use your photos as visuals for advertising. Unless I'm preparing a photograph for gallery prints, I don't normally do very heavy post processing other than simple cropping, color correction, lightness/darkness, or contrast adjustments. I am not a graphic artist, so I have no need for anything fancy or overly feature-laden. I shoot almost exclusively RAW and use Adobe Lightroom to process them. Although I can almost do everything in Lightroom, there are occasions when I need to do some minor adjustments and that's where PSP becomes useful. Somehow, I cannot see spending big bucks on something like Photoshop and use only about 20% or less of its capability. Does that make sense?
Ben
