I haven't got much firsthand experience on this lens so can't give you any opinions. If you haven't seen it yourself though, and if you are conscious about the weight of your gear, I can tell you that it is one massive lens. Since it is built for full frame (film) it is bigger and heavier than the 17-55/2.8 DX. Not sure how it compares to the Nikon 28-70/2.8.

There's a page on photozone, but I think they might have tested a copy with the focusing issue, since they complained about softness at f/2.8: http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/reviews/sigma2470.htm

Also you probably already read it, but I should just point out our experiences with sample variation and focus issues with brand new copies. I seem to have read a lot of complaints especially for the Sigma 24-70/2.8. Here's a thread that I started on our experience: http://www.digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=79

i hve this lens in my gear, one thing is great about this lens is sharpness...but the zoom ring is stiff and no HSM...very noisy while focusing.

i saw someone posting practically new one for about 20K in another forum though. :)

i'm facinated about this lens myself. 24mm seems a lot better than the usual 28mm and being able to close focus is a dream for me. I have an old tokina 28-70mm f/2.8 and while it's a lovely lens, i can't stand the fact that i have to be about 2 feet away from my subject all the time :)

I love this lens. Its my everyday lens. Great indoors and outdoors. Useless lang ang built-in flash at 24mm to around 30mm sa laki ng lens (82mm mm thread) especially on my Nikon d70s. Anyway, that is a good reason to buy an external flash :)

grrr.... 18-50mm f/2.8 or a 24-70mm f/2.8??

will you give up 6mm width to gain 20mm

i was thinking of updating my set to an 18-50mm f/2.8 + 60mm f/2.8 macro + 70-200mm f/2.8

or 10-20mm + 24-70mm f/2.8 macro + 70-200mm f/2.8

hochi_abaya
08-30-2006, 11:38 AM
my personal choice would be the 24-70 over the 18-50
with your second set you will have covered all possibilities

Nesty Ocampo
08-31-2006, 09:59 PM
since i already have the 24-70mm, im also going for your second choice.. 10-20mm, 24-70mm and 70-200mm as well. in a few days, im getting the 70-200. :)

Had one some years ago (non macro but DG version), but sold it because a) too soft at 2.8 for me, and b) slow to focus.

Sweet spot is F/5.6 to F/8. F/4 still a bit soft.

hey nesty (and all the other 24-70mm owners)

how do you find the focusing speed of your lens? is it fast enough to cover, say a basketball game? does it hunt a lot?

etc. etc... :)

Vince_Villamin
09-06-2006, 06:39 PM
I'd personally go for the first setup. The sigma 10-20 is good but not quite fast enough (f/4-5.6) for me, i don't like shooting with flash so much or at the very least just for fill and f/4 doesn't do it for me. I have a similar setup a D200 with a 17-55 f/2.8 and a D70 with a Tokina 12-24 f/4 and a Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 and a 80-200 f/2.8 on the side. The 28-70 is great for portraits but I find myself constantly needing a wider lens, it is easier to get closer than to walk backwards without getting hindered by obstacles (at least for event photography). It ends up being that the D70 uses the 12-24 more and the 28-70 becomes some sort of portrait lens, because it really is awesome for portraits. The compromise is obvious but a compromise that you do have to make nonetheless. For the 17-55, I find that it is in most circumstances wide enough to use for just about anything. Of course the Sigma is much slower in focusing but my D70 motor is the culprit for that. I do not feel that it hunts particularly more than my other AF-S lenses.

Although it has the word "macro" in it's name, it's minimum focusing distance is still around a feet and a half so not much different than what you have now.

I have this lens in a Nikon AF mount and I love how sharp images are specially when stopped down a stop or two. Downside is the huge 82mm filter thread, so filters will cost a small fortune. Think of it this way, a wide-angle CPL (thinner element and ring) for this lens costs almost as much as a nikkor 50mm 1.8.

how do you find the focusing speed of your lens? is it fast enough to cover, say a basketball game? does it hunt a lot?

Focusing speed is adequate for my applications but might be a little slow focusing for sports, but then again, this lens might be on the short end for sporting events so I would probably use a 80-200mm.

Let me just give this thread a bump...

Here is my share of sample pics I took from last Saturday's Gawad Kalinga Event along Central Ave. QC.

These pics were taken by my Sigma 24-70 f/2.8.. In my humble opinion I think it is one very capable lens.:)

I was a bit lucky because I was able to use both Sigma's 24-70 f/2.8 and it's counter part Tamron's 28-75 f/2.8. I used the sigma for more than a year and used it for events such as weddings and debuts, I find it very reliable in low lights and its so called macro capability, however, when I used the tamron I was surprised of its performance in terms of the faster focusing compared to sigma, no noise at all while focusing, the color and I find it sharper than the sigma. sigma @ 24mm f/2.8 is extremely soft. compared to tamron's. tho the sigma's macro is better than the tamron.

ano yun ria, you want this lens also? this is what i have with me... though it doenst autofocus on my D40, i still love this lens. and yes, i have to agree that it is stiff sometimes. but it doesnt worries me, i am more worried of the MF. the only thing that i dont like is that sensor doesnt work when in MF, so i have to second guess my shot, if it is blurred, then "sorry na lang" (try again) if not, then asteg!

anyway, i love this lens, but i want autofocus...soo i guess it is time to buy D80...ahaha asteeg

I used mine for a few months in events and shoots and apart from it being a bit big (especially at 24mm) and heavy, I liked it's sharpness and warmth. It is very comparable to the its L counterpart and the price is half the Canon counterpart even on sale. Like any third party lens, make sure you test the hell out of it before purchase. Before picking my copy, I tested another for 20 minutes and it was a lemon! Usual problems include focus-hunting, maybe some back focusing problems and unusual CA around the edges.

I'm not using mine anymore so if anyone of you are interested to purchase just message me. I took care of my lens like it was my own baby.

costs around 22,500 at JT photo. cheaper than before which is 24,800 pesos...but the sigma 82mm ex uv filter costs a whooping 2,400 pesos. You can also wait for photoworld 2008 and expect a 5-10 percent discount. :)

Are there other hood options for this lens? Maybe something bigger? Alot of users seem to be complaining of its useless design.

The Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, on the other hand, makes use of a BIG hood.

yes absolutely sharp cause its daylight.. how if in low light..

I test this lens with my Canon Kit lens 18-55mm F4-5.6 IS. I set the f-stop to f/4 on same focal length at 35mm in low light with same shutter speed of 1/4.

Using Canon with IS was sharp but SIGMA 24-70mm EX DG was a bit blurred. Setting the F-stop to f2.8 would help to increase the shutter speed but it still blurred in some part of the image. OS version of this would be nice in situation like that. :)

Sharpness, with the Sigma 24-70 EX DG Macro is (for me) not an issue with low light situations. More of a focusing issue though, it tends to hunt.

Another issue is that it flares seriously at 2.8

For some reason, this lens is tack sharp on my 400D and somewhat off in my 40D.

The sigma 24-70 lens is a very good lens overall, its very sharp and it produces excellent images, that is if you get a good copy of it. The old copy of this lens tend to have focusing problems though if you buy your copy now it's only a small chance you would get a unit with focusing problems. But off course if you get a bad copy of this lens you can always send it back to sigma for repair.

In low light it does perfrom pretty well also but some times AF tends to hunt.

I got my 24-70 from amazon for around 390USD but some how the price went up again to around 430USD.

So for the price and overall performance this lens is still a very good buy and highly recommended. (filter and polarizer is expensive though at 82mm)
Hope they release a HSM version of this lens.

getting a lot of info from this thread...i am planning to buy the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG MACRO this week and have read in some reviews from other sites about its lens glare. they say that the hood is not big enough. would like to hear feedbacks from owners of this lens. thanks in advance !

Florencio de la Merced, J

That impression is often due to comparison to the lens hood of Canon's own 24-70 L f/2.8 which is quite huge.

if the lens performs well, i don't think you should let flare stop you from enjoying it. you can always be creative by putting your hand or hat to block the source of light.

baka rin naman shooting with the sun in the frame kaya may flare, eh that would happen to pretty much any lens na rin

cedricvalera
04-30-2008, 02:15 AM
At 2.8, I think it handles flare poorly. The lens hood is simply too small for the 82mm front element. It even flares on white walls.

It can be coped with, however.

what i like about this lens ....

* sturdy construction, built like a tank and i love the look of the huge glass (82mm) the EX finish is niiiice
* sharp lens! with warm colors and good contrast .
* focuses pretty fast, better than i expected. no problem with back focus and front focus. this lens is very reliable in low light conditions. it hunts just a bit and doesn't bother me.
* at 70mm and f2.8 it is soft but because of the macro ability (i have no issues with that) but @70mm f4.0 it is sharp and is sweet at f5.6 !
* very good IQ at 24-52mm all apertures - sharp !
* it is a little noisy but doesn't bother me at all since i'm not paying for an L lens :) very easy to live with for the price i'm paying. (17k with filter already brand new, from HK)
* don't do pro work, so for a hobbyist like myself, it is more than adequate.

Thanks a lot! I did the test and the copy that i have has no back or front focusing issues. It focuses where it should. Does this mean that the copy that i have is okey? What about the sharpness? Talaga bang medyo soft sya at 2.8? Mine is. Pero to my newbie eyes, sharp naman kuha ko at higher f stops.

for anyone using 24-70 f2.8 sigma does it get hard to turn the zoom ring around the 35mm down to 24mm area?

I noticed that resistance too, hard to turn the zoom ring from 35mm to 24mm. here's an explanation http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=97&sort=7&cat=37&page=1 (the third review). So the lens will hold itself at wide angle. The Tamron has a focus lock. I use it on my Pentax K200.

@Karlo: When did you get yours? My zoom ring is too tight also. The Sales Rep in the Store said that the zoom ring is one of the complaint because after a year or so they bring back the unit for repair to tighten it. So they said its ok just for now.

My take:

I love the feel of my 24-70mm. feels solid though a little bit heavy but the pictures it produces is relatively good.

very crisp and clear. I bought it at Mayer Photoshop in Hidalgo for only 20k. brand new.

only complaint is the zoom ring. medyo tight but the pictures are sharp specially at high f stops.

I highly recommend this lens.

hi guys!

i also have this lens, bought it from a forum member also, 3rd hand na ata. so it's kinda beat-up and old. here's a sample pic i took with it...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3559/3285855781_fddf4fcc42.jpg

anyway, about the zoom ring being too tight, since i got mine pretty beat-up already, mine used to be kinda loose. to the point that when you point the camera lens facing down, the lens creeps, hehe. so, since it was also due for cleaning, i sent mine to a well known lens repairman, and got it back, very clean and the zoom ring... very tight, hehehe. maybe i think it's also because of the heavy glass elements at the front of the lens. i'm not so sure.

I am looking into getting this Sigma 24-70mm EX DG f/2.8. There's already a new release of this lens with HSM but its too expensive for me.

Hey Leio - Go for it! Just look for the nicest deal. You can acquire it at around 20 - 25K. Yes, the newest version is far more expensive. Portraits would be good but a bit washed out wide open (still tolerable for me). I found f4 to be sharp till f8. You can check my flickr for samples. Cheers!

Just got mine recently (I still feel 24 is not wide enough for me, but with the price I got it considering it's still new, why not?), but I have couple questions about this lens:
1. Is your copy a little bit soft at 70? I read that it's common in that length.
2. I find it hard to control the depth of field compared to other lens. Even at f/4 (most especially at 70mm), it's still a bit shallow.

Thanks!

Eri Catral

About my inquiry above, I tested the lens using the front/back focus chart and found out that at 70mm it's front focus by at least 1cm or 1 battery away (using AA battery). At 24mm, it has a little bit back focus but tolerable :)

dof is also affected by focal length i think, lower aperture plus longer focal length and greater distance between subject and background or foreground affects dof, please correct me if im wrong =)

about your question on the other thread, i think you can have it calibrated at jt for 1200, but im not sure.

Yep, you're correct about it. But given those, I find it hard to control DOF compared to those I've used like kit lens, 17-85, 17-40L and 50 1.8. Even at f/4, dof is still shallow for this lens (my copy), and at f/8, other lenses are still deeper.

And yes, I've already brought it to JT, and the issue at 70mm was solved.:) The only thing that bothers me little is at 24mm, it had a little back focus after the calibration.

I just got a copy of this lens for myself. :)

As suggested I took all the necessary precautions and tested multiple copies of this lens over at JT before purchasing.

This is my first Sigma lens and im coming from using purely canon lenses, both L and standard lenses.

General observations.
(This may just be with my copy?)

1. This lens seems to catch colors differently compared to my canon lenses. Specially indoor, there seems to be a slight yellow color cast.

2. My copy maintains preety good sharpness the entire focal length. I do see a difference compared to shooting with L lenses, definately not enough to warrant the additional 30-35k more to purchase it. (In my opinion at least). It does get a bit softer wide open and 70mm but really performs well f4 till about f11.

3. Its a preety heft lens. Not as big as the L equivalent, just slightly smaller. Its does give me a bit more confidence than the competing Tamron. its a bit heavy too, but i like my lenses that way. I do like the EX DG finish. Matte black.

4. The zoom ring turns opposite to the canon. (takes a while to get used to) Its also very tight to turn. ( I hear it loosens up after time).

5. The Petal type lens hood is tiny. It barely does its job in keeping flare away. I still have to cover up with my hands for additional prevention.

6. Clutch for AF to M takes some getting used to as well. I dont understand why I had to do an additional action to switch to manual, instead of just the AF- M switch I now have to use a clutch as well.

Conclusion:

I forget the minor nuances when I shoot with this lens. The image quality, the build and the price are definately worth raving about! I'd recommend this lens to anyone who wants a good walk around, and loves taking portraits. :)

Hello leio!
It is a very good portrait lens and captures warm images compared to other lenses.

re you concern on the flare : Considering the 82mm diameter of this lens, it welcomes flare quite beautifully. especially if you do not attach the lens hood. I, for one am a fan of natural light photog. and am lovin' it.

Hello Karen!

I didn't get this lens. I got the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. This Tamron works great for me for its wideness at 17mm (but of course, lower than 17mm is still better. e.g. Canon 10-22mm,etc.) and 18mm-50mm for Portrait.

I also noticed that "some" Sigma lenses are susceptible to lens glare. Hope this helps.

I opted for Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 for its wideness at 17mm (10-22mm of course is better) and the rest 18-50mm for Portrait.

I also read out some reviews that this Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 is a good buy.

If you are going for Sports/Basketball photog, my "personal opinion" is to get 70-200mm f/2.8 if you are using Canon.

Sorry OT:

Hi Leio, where did you bought your tamron lens? do you have any idea where can i send my tamron for repair here in the philippines. my tamron 11-18 UWA totally died (got it from Middle East and the shop told me they'll send it to japan for repair, and will charge me for the shipping cost. the worst customer service i've ever encountered!). i like tamron's IQ output, but its built is totally undependable (toyish!) unlike sigma, tokina and OEM lenses. i'll never buy a tamron lens again.

Hello Bobet!

I'm sorry to hear that happened to your Tamron lens.

To be honest I don't think Tamron have its own repair center here in the Philippines. :(

I got my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 from Digital Walker Greenbelt 5. They assured me that I have 1 year warranty. I'm just not sure if they accept Tamron lens repair that is not purchased from their store. :(:(:(

At 2.8, I think it handles flare poorly. The lens hood is simply too small for the 82mm front element. It even flares on white walls.

It can be coped with, however.

:)

Hi sir. I also have experienced flaring with the Sigma but I heard that it can be minimized more with Collapsible Lens Hoods 82mm since the Petal Lens Hood that is included is so small. Does any one have experience with these Collaspsible Lens Hoods in terms of flare control and vignetting? Thanks.

I also believe this is a great lens. Here are some shots.

Got this lens yesterday, haven't really tested it yet but yah the hood might really be an issue as you guys have said.

Aside from a collapsible lens hood, are you guys aware of any replacement hood that is bigger that might lessen the possibility of flares

It's a short lens... so I don't have any problem with it not having the OS.

I'm using a D90 with a built-in AF motor... so the HSM isn't an issue for me.

The 18-105mm Nikkor is also a great all-around lens... I have one myself, as this came as a kit lens for the D90.

If you really think you need the HSM feature, then go for the newer HSM version of the 24-70mm... a bit expensive, P43k at JT.

Finally got mine today from JT... awesome lens!

Hi PHIL.... were you able to get the HSM version???
please... could share some photos using your new lens???

I've already tried the 50~150 2.8 and I'm really impressed by the sharpness of SIGMA lenses... Considering of getting a 24~70 2.8 SIGMA (a Full Frame Lens) for my lens setup... :)

Thanks and warm regards...:)

No, mine isn't the HSM version. Since I'm a D90 user, the HSM feature isn't really necessary... that's even what Orly of JT told me. For those using a dSLR without an AF motor, then the HSM feature would be necessary for most.

I'm using the 18-50 2.8 DC HSM (got it at hidalgo for 22.5K last year) and i'm really happy with it. The 70mm reach is just a step forward away...so if the 18-50 2.8 and 24-70 2.8 are the same IQ wise (or if you can't tell the difference), why spend an extra 20thou?

No, it doesn't. You'll need to buy the HSM version for this to AF on the D40/40x/60/3K/5K. The HSM is a bit more expensive... P17.5k price difference.

I think the focusing speed depends on your camera body's AF motor since it doesn't have it's own AF motor. It does focus fast on my D90.

Thanks.

That's what most forums have mentioned as well. I initially thought I got myself a lemon. I guess I just have to adjust to it.

The build is sturdy. Others complain about the weight; it feels just right to me. Some forumers mentioned that it tends to hunt and can get a little soft at times; yes it struggles (just) a bit in extremely dark scenarios (like most lenses, even the primes) but "soft" is not something I'd use on its photos.

It's crisp and clear. The color and contrast are brilliant. I've been using my 50mm and my friend's 35mm a lot. I think I'll be using this a lot more.

the 20k difference is from the HSM variant of this 24-70 f/2.8 EX DG Macro. Yes, this one is also full frame (DG) whereas the 18-50 is not (DC).

I just purchased one at JTPhoto last saturday for 25,500 - 6 mos 0% interest (rather than buying it for 23.5k + markup + straight swipe at Hidalgo which if interest builds up, will tend to become more expensive). They don't have any stocks at that time so being a known customer of JT, they entrusted to lend me a Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 while I wait for their stocks to arrive. This 18-50 is one of their demo/display lenses and it definitely needs calibration! I can't use its f/2.8 as it is very soft! lol Good thing I don't have any shoots at the moment (But I need it by weekend! yay!)

i bought mine at robinsons cybergate.. 6 months installment roughly around 23+k.. there are some sellers selling this for about 15 to 16k.. rumors are true when it comes to quality control.. i returned mine the following day because there were some peelings inside the camera glass.. good thing the store accepts 3 days exchange.. got me a second copy and im pretty satisfied with it.. I love the size of the focus ring.. makes me want to use manual focusing more often.. i have no problems with focusing and IQ so far.. it focuses fast enough for me and the results are just what i expect.. 24mm is also wide enough for me as of the moment.. Dual focus system does not bother me at all because it makes this lens more interesting and less boring.. will try to post some photos soon.. overall very very satisfied with the lens.. it's worth the price.. =)

so long as there are no issues whatsoever. test all you can before making the purchase. if all is good, by all means go ahead. resale value of this lens (or brand for that matter) is really not that high compared to its mainstream branded ones.

I find the 'macro' feature of this lens only as an advantage of being able to focus closer to the subject as opposed to other lenses (since I shoot portraits all the time). I never really thought of using this as a macro lens.

originally i was planning on buying a nikkor 18-200 VRII lens as an upgrade from my kit lens.. but from my research i found out that a lens with a constant aperture is much better (i'm such a newbie)..

also, i found out that a lens with this kind of coverage would be great for fashion and portrait photography (i'm a hobbyist but i'm into those kind of photography)..

so.. i'm thinking of buying this one with the HSM on it..

can someone post some sample pictures of it and share your comments about this lens.. oh, i'd also like to know how much did it cost and where did you buy the lens.. thanks in advance..

i hope you guys can help me out :))

How does this lens actually compare to the tamron 28-75mm. (optically speaking) I am thinking of buying any of these two lenses. So far the reviews I've read (not here in DPP of course) goes in favor of the tamron in terms of sharpness. I also learned that due to the small size of its hood, it tends to produce terrible flare.

Here's the review... any thoughts?

I'd say the 50mm f1.8II plastic fantastic is really sharper than the sigma 24-70 but then again that's a prime. I think the sigma is sharp enough IF it focuses properly with your camera body. I don't have mine any more, but I found it sharp enough with my 400D even at f2.8.

Here's a sample shot wide open at f2.8 and at 30mm:

I sold mine coz of the softness of the photos taken by this lens. Then I tried Tamron 28-75 and happy with it compare to sigma. Many reviews shows that Tamron is better in terms of sharpness of the photos taken compare to this lens. But for me, Im happy now in my the Tamron 17-50 sharpest among the 3rd party lens yet not same focal length of 28-75 and this lens.

Has anyone have had any experience with this lens with the D7000? I've been reading through some international forums that the 24-70 had some issues with the D7000 (when using the lens the camera doesn't even power up). I can't seem to figure out whether its this version or the HSM version that acts up on the D7k. They all say its the 82mm (filter thread) version and both the macro and HSM version have 82mm filter threads. I understand that the D7k's Live View AF has some issues with 3rd party lens but its not a big deal for me. I ask this question because I do have this lens (on my D80) and plan to upgrade to the D7k (or D300s) before coming back to Manila for a vacation this April.

Has anyone have had any experience with this lens with the D7000? I've been reading through some international forums that the 24-70 had some issues with the D7000 (when using the lens the camera doesn't even power up). I can't seem to figure out whether its this version or the HSM version that acts up on the D7k. They all say its the 82mm (filter thread) version and both the macro and HSM version have 82mm filter threads. hmm... now that you mention it, I'll test my Sigma 24-70 to a friend's D7000 and see what will happen. I'll let you know soon.

Hi what will happen if you calibrate the lens?

Hi what will happen if you calibrate the lens?

When I had mine calibrated, I noticed that it focuses much faster and more accurately, it hunts better even when I'm focusing on a poorly lit subject, and sharpness has improved as well ---all at f/2.8, because for f/4 and above i don't have any issues before i had it calibrated.

Evidently this one has PP already, but it was only more on global adjustments. There's little bit of USM but I won't be able to achieve that if the sharpness isn't good to begin with...

oops sorry... i haven't had the time to meet up with this friend of mine lately... but he did say that one time we were on a shoot, he used this lens of mine when I borrowed his other lens (can't recall, sign of aging? lol) and he said that he didn't find any issue with it.

cant find it anywhere here..
Is the IQ of the old version, Sigma 24-70 2.8 Macro BETTER than the new version Sigma 24-70 2.8 HSM, I understand that it is faster since the use of the HSM but how does it compare to their IQ?
Thanks guys:)

I haven't tried this one out. But would you want to consider the Tamron 28-75 mm f/2.8
It's only about 18k in Glorietta 5 in Henry's. I heard it's really sharp. Razor-sharp for exaggeration :P

guys,

is the macro/ close focusing ability of the lens usable at all FL range?
is this 1:1 macro btw?

thank you

I don't think it's 1:1 though. I'm just able to take advantage of its macro feature because i can focus closer to the subject but not really for macro shots so to speak. I think it's usable throughout the entire focal length.

FWIW:
"With a minimum focusing distance of 15.7" (40 cm), the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens has a maximum magnification of .26x. This is enough magnification for Sigma to give this lens a "macro" designation. I prefer the macro definition to start at 1.0x (1:1), but this is a good spec for this lens. It will focus close enough for nice pictures of flowers and other similar-sized objects. "

Source: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Sigma-24-70mm-F-2.8-EX-DG-Lens-Review.aspx

IMHO, this lens is not a true 'macro'. That "maximum magnification of .26x" is just a bit greater than a 1:4 magnification ratio.

BTW, true 'macro' lenses are 'primes', not 'zooms'; magnification starts at 1.0X (1:1).

Just my 2¢.

yep, this isn't really a 'macro' lens. as quoted, it was technically categorized as a macro lens because of its minimum focusing distance capability as opposed to some zoom lens. Sigma tries to take a bit of advantage with that feature comparing to their Nikkor/Canon counterparts.

The 24-70L has a greater magnification @ 0.29x, even greater is the kit lens @ 0.34x.

A lot of people fall for the "MACRO" label, good marketing by Sigma.
