I just found 2 very interesting portable tripod systems. I'm still thinking on what to purchase. Although Gorillapod is cute and all, ultrapod seems a bit more practical. I'll probably be buying a few extra since I'm here in the US until May 7. Just pm me if your interested in getting one. Don't pm me about other products lol...
I don't like lugging a gigantic tripod (I have a small one, but still...) so these two products really appeal to me. Check out the links so you'll know what I'm exactly talking about.
You could find similar products at Hidalgo but the novelty of these two products is just on a different level. Hehe...I don't frolic too much around Hidalgo so I wouldn't know if they sold either product there. Tell me if they do though and for how much. :)

Hi Edric..nice mini tripod very compact and light...but I think nothing can replace the regular sturdy tripod. The regular tripod maybe big and bulky to carry around but I think it is very versatile and adaptable especially in areas where there is no elevated platform. It is better to be safe than sorry.. and U dont want anything to happen to ur precious and expensive DSLR baby. Good day to you:)

diego's got a good point there. the gorillapod for dslr can comfortably handle up to say, 4 pounds, no more. add the ballhead weight and it may be a bit unwieldy. nothing beats a regular tripod pa rin, siyempre. i only plan to use the gorillapod for mountain climbs and/or for my point-and-shooter.

Thanks for the input guys. Amazon sells gorillapod for a mere $18 so I guess it's a no-brainer in case I push through buying it.
The ultrapod seems like a much better deal given it's construction and it's carrying capacity. I might just buy it for a portable tripod solution. I've encountered times when I knew I could've used either of the two products so I might as well buy one.
And yes, I do agree with your comments about the superiority of a regular tripod. :)

I'd like to purchase a portable one speacially for tabletop/office use. I'm now on a hunt for one that will support an SLR.

I had a Gorillapod SLR Zoom (their biggest one) and it couldn't even support a D80 with a 17-55. After much frustration trying to set it up so that it would just stay still, I gave up and sold it eventually.

I was thinking before that gorillapod might be useful in placing your camera to get angles that you can't normally shoot with a tripod. Then I realized that to get such angles, I might be endangering my camera... or myself in that matter. :)

i'm looking for a small tripod for my G9 and i'm considering getting the gorillapod. should i go with the original or slr model? and has anybody had any experience with the imitation gorillapod like the one cebu pacific is selling for P180 only? are they sturdy enough (both orig and replica)? do they support the camera's weight well enough? thanks!

I'll use those as stands for strobes, reflectors, and P&S cams, of course... :)
There are a lot of HK knock-offs in eBay that are a lot cheaper too...
